    [face_rofl] That's perfect.

Maybe I'll still get a chance to see Aquaman if it's playing a month from now. I want to, but the movie showings are borked beyond belief here (and my working these extra hours isn't helping).

Aquaman would've been a better film if they got rid of the whole Manta subplot. Oh and prevent Pit Bull from having a career get rid of that horrid Africa track

It apparently had the lowest domestic opening of my DCEU movie. Or does Justice League still have that honor? But as pointed out it for Christmas openings pretty good. And if it has legs let’s see.

I wonder how much repeat business it’ll have. I think all 3 on the Collider spoiler reviews will do see it again. The girl was mixed, having very highs and lows, but will see it again. John Rocha wasn’t mixedC but still wants to see it again. Drinks Too Much Red Bull Guy loved it. All 3 want a sequel. On the first reaction Darth Harloffvl barely likedcut. Annoying Nipicking Girl didn’t like it at all. Cant remember the other Gus and his reaction. Mark Ellis wasn’t on, but he loved it.

It won’t open in Japan until February, so that’ll mean a lot of money arriving late. I’ll watch it.

Last two days I get logged out after posting and my too long to remember Strong Passwords suggested by the software are rejected after trying to login.

Kevin Smith nuts up over this film in his typical nutty way.

John Campea is mixed, mostly positive.

It's pretty common for movies to release 4-8 weeks later in Japan than in the major Western markets. It has a lot to do with ticket prices being so high there. Audiences tend not to be as willing to take chances on unknown or unproven foreign films. So distributors allow time to see how they perform overseas so they can promote them on their established success. That's also a factor in the negotiations between the distribution companies and the individual theaters.

What I'm finding interesting about this (and not in a "screw DC" way, but an actually interesting way) is that this is still, by far, the lowest grossing DCEU movie domestically -- but the international numbers are off the charts.

It's like the inverse Wonder Woman (most domestic, least international). I honestly have no idea WTF it means: women don't sell overseas, Jason Momoa does sell overseas, the tone is a big seller, people like underwater movies... who knows! It's extremely confusing!

Wonder Woman was essentially a WWI period piece with some smaller scale action pieces that was promoted on it's themes (and a bit on Gal Gadot). That probably hurts it's appeal in the emerging foreign markets who are content to rely on their domestically produced movies for that sort of entertainment (though WWI probably isn't much of a draw there to begin with).

The one thing that Hollywood has that sells well in those markets, outside of a handful of stars, is big budget grand spectacle. Foreign studios don't do it as well because they don't have the same resources to devote to it (though that gap is closing). And it doesn't suffer much from language barriers. Aquaman oozed that in it's trailers and it delivered in the final product. I think that's a bigger factor than Momoa is. But I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up the Fast/Furious franchise at some point after this.

Interesting. Also of interest is successful movies here tend to have much longer legs.

Now I’ll be logged out again.

Any chance we'll get to see Aquaman and Harley in the same movie? If she could borrow the intro line from Injustice 2 where she says, "Does Calamari make you sad?" that alone would be worth the price of the ticket.

The funny thing is, Aquaman is more of a stiff in Injustice than he appears to be in the movie. It just makes it all the more funny when she says that to his face and he gets all serious about it.

Aquaman has a really solid domestic run going but it's international numbers are Bananas. It just became the highest grossing movie internationally in the DCEU and is trailing behind the 1 billion mark of the last two Nolan Batflicks.

I don't know much past the bare bones. I remember the TV show from when I was a kid. But the premise for the movie is great and the casting has struck me as being on point from the get. I think the buzz will end up being the DCU is back on track after the successes of ... Aquaman and Shazam. The very notion makes me giddy.

So I finally got around to seeing Aquaman. It was good, not great; I had some complaints, a few kind of big (the movie would have worked better without the Black Manta B-plot), but overall I enjoyed it. I will say I grinned like an idiot throughout the entire Trench scene, it was an absolute joy to see Atlantis brought to life so beautifully, and Jason Momoa is extremely likable in the role. I liked it less than Wonder Woman, and enjoyed it more than Man of Steel (I think MoS might be the better movie, though). Weird that we’ve only gotten three DCEU movies since 2013. I’m absolutely on board if Wan returns for another.
