Since it's JUST the DCEU it seems people here do not apreciate Jared Leto's effort in role ...

And people say MCU has a villain problem. [face_rofl]

Naw it’s not the villains in the DCEU it’s the EU itself. I liked the Snyder Cut and really liked the new Steppenwolf.

It is interesting how the films of the DCEU are either super heavy the BvS or are total popcorn like Aquaman or WW88. I like there anything can happen and the movies don’t need to be connected at all approach.

Fingers crossed the Snyder Cut helps the future of these films going forward.

The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) are the DC films that's connected to Zack Snyder's films (typically connected by characters), which are:
    1. Man of Steel
    2. Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (follow up film to Man of Steel)
    3. Suicide Squad (features Batman from Batman vs. Superman)
    4. Wonder Woman (Wonder Woman from Batman vs. Superman)
    5. Justice League (follow up film to Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice)
    6. Aquaman (Aquaman from Justice League)
    7. Shazam (Superman appears)
    8. Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad)
    9. Wonder Woman 1984
    10. The Suicide Squad (features characters from the original Suicide Squad film, but I'm sure some will argue this is not part of the DCEU)

EDIT: My favorite DCEU villain is Faora.

Regarding the upcoming Reeves Batman films: Is anyone else hoping that the Joker is left out? I've arrived at the point where I consider myself fortunate to have seen five extraordinary interpretations of the character (Romero, Nicholson, Hamill, Ledger and Phoenix) and would like to leave it at that. There are plenty of other stories to tell without involving an antagonist who is now at risk of overexposure.

I don't know about that. I mean, I feel like filmmakers are really understanding how to make Joker worthy of the cinematic presentation, much like the industry as a whole is understanding how to adapt comic book properties for live action. So, I wouldn't close the book on Joker appear in Matt Reeves The Batman film(s). That being said, I would like to see more of Batman's rogues make it to the silver screen and so far, I like the creepy vibes of the villain that appeared in The Batman trailer.

Ben Affleck's The Batman would have Batman take on Deathstroke and from people that read the script, it would have been awesome. I'm sure it would have. Aside from Bane in the Dark Knight Rises, Batman hasn't really fought anyone that could best him in hand-to-hand combat.

I think Rogue's gallery is bigger problem for Superman. I'm a bit tired of it being Lex and/or Zod, almost every time. I think it's 10 Batman villains between 1989 and now. Superman has Lex a few times, Zod a couple of times, a rando in Superman 3 and Nuclear Man in Superman 4...I think?

    Pretty genius

"A two hour movie that's terrible to a four hour movie that's mediocre!" Also apparently there was an "Ancient Lamentation" gag in the 1st version of the Honest Trailer but WB called copyright infringement.

Of note: "mediocre" doesn't mean bad as angry comments indicate. To quote Bruce Wayne from a more Whedon-y version of Justice League "That's not a saying. That's the opposite of what the saying is."

Good pick actually. I thought she was pretty great. Of course, she's central to the Smallville fight, which is the best part of that movie.

I’m not so much against Joker as I am in favor of other Gotham Villains. I’m honestly happy I’ve gotten *a* decent Ra’s Al Ghul, and *a* decent Bane... but I want more of them before I see Joker as a Big Bad again, as well as a Two-Face Big Bad run, maybe a Professor Strange Big Bad Run, maybe a Hush, etc.

In their defense King Kong is anatomically correct and circumcised in the Snyder Cut.

It's well past time for studios to tell the toxic fans to eff off. Nerds are just the worst people.

Now, let's not spoil the bushel for some bad apples. In other words, don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

I agree that some fans give fandom a bad reputation, and, regretfully, they're often the most vocal of the bunch, but, far and wide, I've found most fans are actually pretty decent people.

And studios shouldn't base their decision on the behaviour of fringe elements, but on the reception of their work by their fandom as a whole.

Late to the game, I know.

Loved the Snyder version of Justice League.

Not sure if we are still trying to avoid SPOILERS or not, but just in case...

I am not one of those who hated the Whedon JL. I didn't love it, I had issues with it, but overall, there were things I liked and some I didn't. I also get that he was probably given a time limit he had to work within. For all those reasons, as much as possible, my comments are not going to be based on a comparison between the two. That is, if I say I liked X from the Snyder Cut, unless I explicitly say otherwise that isn't meant to say "I liked this better than how it was handled in the Whedon version".

THE HEROES (other than Superman) - Loved the portrayal of the entire team. Cyborg's story was tremendous; the Flash was significant and powerful. Wonder Woman was once again wonderful (couldn't resist) -- manifesting all the traits that I loved about her in BvS (briefly) and Wonder Woman (in more depth). She manages to be a genuine, powerful, inspiring bad-@ss while at the same time seeming joyous and compassionate and warm. It's a fantastic, unique blend of characteristics I can't recall seeing in any other movie hero. Enjoyed Aquaman. And loved, once again, Affleck's Batman, here on the road to regaining his heroic nature after the "shock to the system" events of BvS. Each of the heroes got moments, or several, to highlight their power and competence. While I am at it, might as well mention my enjoyment, again, of Alfred - maybe my favorite version of the character. He had a lot of great little moments, including that tea scene with Diana.

SUPERMAN: The movie really made you feel the loss of Superman on a personal level and a "heroic" level, with a surprising emphasis on the former. His death wasn't hurried past. The sense of grief - obviously, embodied in Lois, but generally - was palpable. Loved some of the small human moments as he regained his memory, and his meeting with Alfred. And loved the way the other heroes talked about him and the need to bring him back.

THE VILLAINS: Steppenwolf looked great and had a solid motivation behind his actions. LOVED Darkseid and really enjoyed the impact of him personally stepping into view (after refusing to for most of the movie) highlighting the significance of Steppenwolf's find. And the "flashback" to the war with the Old Gods? Oh yeah.

EPILOGUES: Yeah, they were tacked on, and no, they weren't necessary but... I enjoyed them. Loved the Batman/Joker interactions, loved the ragtag apocalyptic team (if they don't have a kryptonite bomb on them they are in big trouble). Enjoyed seeing Martian Manhunter deciding it was time to come out of the shadows. Even enjoyed the short Lex/Deathstroke interaction.

NITPICK: I don't for a second follow how Darkseid would lose track of the one world that drove him off, and thus, the location of the Mother Boxes. Can't justify that one.

In short (well, not really, I know!) - a great epic story that advanced the themes raised in MOS and BvS.

The problem I have with this "toxic fandom" thing is that it is virtually impossible to define or quantify, and thus it too often becomes a handy hammer to bash people you disagree with.

Every kind of fandom has some bad actors. Some are just jerks, and some are malevolent or even criminal. In fact - no kidding, being Captain Obvious here - that is true of any large group of people, period. The question is, at what point do enough fans of this or that deserve to be called toxic before it is fair to use that term generally? As noted here, I have heard SW fans described as toxic, comic book fans described as toxic, Snyder fans described as toxic, sports fans described as toxic, online gamers described as toxic, etc. And I have no doubt - ZERO doubt - that all these fandoms do include unsavory or "toxic" elements. In fact, just about every corner of the internet has easy to find examples of everything from extreme rudeness to outright "toxicity". Believe it or not, I recall reading an article about some very intense, rude to toxic behavior between those into knitting versus those into crochet. No, I am not kidding.

I think we might be better off calling out "toxic" (or simply rude) behavior anywhere we see it, versus too quickly deciding to broad brush different kinds of fandom. Just my view.

I think its somewhat fair. Long before social media, etc there was tons of gatekeeping that's purpose was to drive people away. Stupid crap like making people prove they are a "real fan".

    Awh, gatekeeping...

"Toxic" fandom is not something new...

There have always been trolls among the fandom that make themselves feel better by taking others down.

What is new are the fanatics having a strong sense of entitlement and weaponizing social media and other online platforms to spread their hurtful, harmful and hateful agendas. Much like in the political arena, geek culture has created a sect with very specific beliefs of the powers at be (i.e. studios) and how they should cater to them or else feel their online wrath...

And there are those that are using "toxic" fandom to boost their subscribers/followers on the social media accounts. These social media "influencers" or "wannabe influencers" spend every minute of the day to find the hot button topics of the day and spit out venom to add fuel to a burning fire without any real insider knowledge or performing any journalistic due diligence. These "influencers" thrive on negativity and pointing fingers as to who is to blame for their unhappiness; misery loves company.
As a result, fandom seems to be defined by the things it hates rather than the things it loves and enjoys.

It's the reason I stay off the fan communities on Twitter and Facebook and mostly discuss things here on the JCC.
