I'm trying to make an imperial Crimson guard uniform, but 1) don't know what fabric will be as good but cheaper than velvet, 2) I can't find a helmet for a decent price, willing ot pay $50 for this, 3) need help on the pike, and 4) should I wear a second robe or the crimson empire armor?

I'm wanting to make this for the 501st, but I'm a couple of years to young, so it doesn't have to be perfect. I"m also wanting to troop around with them as a "tag-along," hoping that I can get the jist of it before I join. If you guys (and gals) can help me with any of this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Do you mean an Imperial Royal Guard?

Check out the thread index at the top of the forum page. There is an older thread called "Imperial Royal Guard Costume help, please" with some good info and links to other boards that deal specifically with that costume.

Since I know someone in the Sovereign Protectors 501st detachment (all royal guards), check out www.forcepike.com that just went up recently.

There is a big difference between a Crimson Guard, and an Imperial Royal guard.

The Royal Guard is MUCH easier.

The Crimson Guard is EU, and will likely cost you over 1000 dollars to do correctly.

Which do you want to do?

If you do plan to join the 501st with a Royal Guard costume you will need to invest in the proper fabric for the robes. If you just plan on hanging out in the costume to impress your friends, any old fabric will do.

Save for the proper items, you'll be happier with the result. Plus, you won't waste money replacing the inferior items you might get at a lower cost.
