I was rereading some of TALES FROM THE MOS EISLEY CANTINA last night, particulary "When The Desert Wind Turns: The Stormtrooper's Tail." I hadn't read it since the book was published, and I had forgotten how it ended: stormtrooper Davin Felth decides to become a spy for the Rebel Alliance. Was he ever used in the EU again? Just curious.

Didn't he help develop the tripping tactic against the AT ATs?

No, but he did discover the walker's underside vulnerbility.

Yeah, he tells his superior, Colonel Veers, about the vulnerability. So you could say this is something he leaked to the Rebels once he became a spy, but then why didn't Rogue Squadron automatically go for the legs instead of using blasters first?

Because they would look pretty stupid if they didn't try it first, then discovered that blaster really did work. Pragmatism, I believe is what they call it.

He supplies a quote in the NEGVV, in the Sentinel shuttle entry.

Aside from that, why was such a vulnerability unknown to Imperial techs/engineers? Obviously, the taller and leggy something is, the more unstable it could be.

Probably not unknown, but not called to attention...afterall, this is the same Empire that won't even provide life support or shields to their fighters ::)

    Veers was his superior?

I wonder why he (Veers) never noticed or took any corrective action?

He has a 2-page entry in the original 'Essential Guide to Characters' but he is not in the 'New Essential Guide to Characters'.

    >> I wonder why he (Veers) never noticed or took any corrective action? <<

Because he was involved with the AT-AT design's creation in some way, and didn't want the production halted.

getting the production halted would have most certainly ended Veers' career... i believe in the Tale, he is only Colonel Veers, and the success of the AT-AT program probably paved the way for his promotion to General, and leader of the ground troops attached to Vader's Death Squadron.

    Stormtrooper's tail???

    LMAO!! I can't believe I didn't catch that. How embarrasing. [face_blush]

And yes, Veers is a Colonel in the story.

Veers tried to keep the AT-ATs vulnerability quiet.

Veers was promoted by Thrawn for something else, I believe (or Thrawn suggested his promotion)

I don't think Veers is really the sort who'd cover up something like the AT-AT vulnerablity, he seems to be more the honest officer, a la Rommel or Guderian. Perhaps it was KDY behind the coverup?

No charge. Consider it a small favor to the ISB, COMPNOR, the Secret Order, KDY and Intelligence.

There was a mission in galactic battlegrounds about it, Veers was promoted by Lord Vader. He did train Thrawn's ground commander, General Covell, though.

Didn't Veers have a relative on board one of the Coruscant Orbital Mirrors?

Veer's did have a son who ended up joining the Alliance. Zev Veers (not the same Zev who appears as a member of Rogue Squadron in ESB).

Zev Veers served as a gunner aboard one of the ships present at Endor, I believe.
