Think about it. It all adds up.
Qui-gon bets everything away with all the odds against him in the hope that a ten year old can save them all.
I realize that he believed him the chosen one, but man, betting away their ship is a rather risky business.
They could've ended up stranded there "a very long time."
Qui-Gon is also familiar with podracing.
They have podracing on Malestar. Very fast, very dangerous.
It's common knowledge that you watch a podrace to bet on it.

Qui-Gon wasn't yet on the council because he didn't follow the rules...
    Gambling?

Surely he enjoyed all the gambling he did while on Tantooine?

Strilo edit: No, one thread is enough

But a ship without a functioning hyperdrive is useless.

I, for one, am of the belief that Qui-Gon's gambling addiction led to Obi-Wan's drinking problem.

    I second that.

Um, haven't we had enough? I'm going to move this to SWC.

Enough of what? I'm sorry, but if the MOD's around here can't even have a sense of humor than the only thing we've had enough of is threads being moved unnecessarily.
