Was Order 66 a clever guise for "666"???

I apologize if this has been brought up before, although I've never seen it.

I always wondered why out of all the possible names he could have chosen, Lucas decided to call the extermination of the Jedi "Order 66". Lucas had said before that the character of Darth Sideous was the physical representation of the devil himself. Perhaps that is why the most crucial element of his entire plan is called "Order 66". It's play on "666".

Crazy? Not crazy?

 

I think the 66 and 666 similarity was definitely purposeful especially given that Sidious is the devil of the Saga.

Yeah, I agree. The possibility is there, but it is just as likely that it was a random number picked and people saw an allusion to Christianity after the fact. It may have just been because sixty-six sounds sinister when Sidious says it, as opposed to say, Order 83, or Order #3, Supersized. It just doesn't sound as evil.

 

Personally, I've always thought there was more of a connection with Executive Order 9066 which gave President Roosevelt emergency powers during World War II.

 

I don't think Lucas has specifically said it was connected to that, but I think there's something in the Bible about the three signs. Something about the number six coming in three part. Six itself. Sixty-six and six hundred sixty-six. The last one is supposed to be the mark of the beast. I think sixty-six connects to something else. False prophet or something. I'm not a religious person, so I know little other than what's talked often.

There was a discussion in the ROTS spoiler forum, last year about Order 66 and it's connection.

The numerological value of the word 'order' is 33, 3+3=6.

So 666.

 

It's more like an unclever guise for "666". It's pretty obvious what it's supposed to mean.

Is anyone here familiar with Numerology? If so, they will get what I am talking about.

In numerology, every number is assigned a value in a chart like is shown on this site.

Lets break the number down:

'O'=6, 'R'=9, 'D'=4, 'E'=5, 'R'=9

6+9+4+5+9=33. 3+3=6.

Hence, the numerological value for 'Order'=6. Order 66=666.

 

Yeah.... right.... He chose 66 because it sounds cool the way Sidious says it: "Execute order eh 66." There's an "eh" there, I swear!

I wonder what order 69 would've meant... Execute order soixante-neuf....

 

I've never really cared for using 66. It just hints at unoriginality for one reason or another. I can still hear in my head the non-geeks and moms in the theater saying out loud "Oh, I get it!"

 

When I said it was a stretch I was referring to the fact that it's highly unlikely Lucas took out a calculator and did all of that.

 

Lucas is an American car nut. A lot of the numbers in SW are numbers from American cars. Anyone hear of Route 66? How many times is 327 in the Saga?

 

This is a very good theory that holds some ground. On one hand, it could have been that Order 66 is a good round ominous number held soundly by McDiarmid's already insidious voicework. On the other hand Lucas says of his own volition on many an occasion when describing Sidious that he was to mirror Satan himself, so perhaps George just wanted to make the 'Jedi Apocalypse' take similiar Biblical origins.

 

I don't think Order 66 was metaphoric or symbolic nor did it indicate something satanic. It was just the name of a particular order given. The cloners had to had known about this. How Palpatine knew and the cloners didn't? Conspiracy? But back to order 66. It was better interesting than saying order 75 or order 27 or something.

I am sure 66 was chosen for some reason. Definately not just because it sounds cool. Whether it was because of the mark of the beast or route 66 as DarthZ07 said, or even the Executive Order 9066 as someone else mentioned, or perhaps a combination of the three, it was undoubtedly chosen for a reason.
