Was Padme afraid of losing Anakin as well?

People, did you know that Anakin wanted to QUIT the Jedi Order? Well, yeah. He wanted to, according to ROTS movie and book. He was also willing to give up his career for Padme in the AOTC movie and book. He flat out said "I don't want to stay in the Order!" in the ROTS book.

So those of you he say that he wanted his cake and wanted to eat too are completely wrong. The real reason why he wouldn't stop living the lie is because Padme didn't want him to, and because he was the Hero With No Fear and it was his duty to protect the Republic. Padme thought this in the ROTS novelization:

"This is why she will not allow their to become public knowledge. Her husband needs to be a Jedi. Saving people is what he was born for; to take that away from him would cripple every good thing in his troubled heart."

So apparently, she didn't want it to become public knowledge because she was afraid that not being a Jedi would change Anakin, and make her different from Anakin as she knew him. Also, the fact that Anakin didn't reveal their marriage shows that---le-gasp---he respected her opinions and decisions to an extent.

It was also Palpatine, not Anakin, who destroyed her career. Anakin, being the Chosen One, may have been able to destroy Palpatine, but either way Palpatine still would have gave Order 66 and declared himself Emperor. Anakin is blamed for EVERYTHING that goes wrong, but this shows that not everything is Anakin's fault all the dang time.

While I am sure Padme also wouldn't let the marriage become public knowledge mostly because she had a duty to the Republic, is that passage from the ROTS novelization right? Was she really afraid of losing her Ani?

There was the scene in ROTS where Anakin implied: "I don't care if I have to leave the Jedi Order. I want to be with you and our child."

Anakin would have left the Order without a doubt if it came to choosing between them and his family.

Is it possible that Anakin could have still become a hero without being affiliated with the Jedi? I would think so. He had to have known that he would not be allowed to become a full Jedi, so maybe he should have left instead of staying and feeling resentful because of it. He and Padme could have still taken part in the Clone Wars. I guess the Jedi would still have kept an eye on him though, and that might have made him suspicious of them. Anakin becoming Vader seems inevitable anyway since Palpatine would have still befriended him. Anakin shouldn't be blamed for everything since Palpatine was pulling his strings. I wouldn't blame Padme for Anakin's fall either.

Oh no, I'm not blaming her at all. I'm just saying that she didn't marry Anakin because she wanted to help him or because she felt sorry for him, but because she simply was attracted to Anakin and wanted to be loved. Of course she wanted to help Anakin when he was upset, but Anakin is not special; whether it's her husband or a stranger, she'll want to help them. But still, there was a part of her that just wanted to be loved.

I agree that Anakin could have still become the hero he wished to be. I'm sure he and Padme could have tried freeing the slaves. I don't think he ever forgot about that---he just didn't focus on it too much when he was older because his mind was on other things. He could have participated in the Clone Wars too, but he seemed pretty eager to end the war which must of meant that he was tired of it.

Palpatine definitely needs more blame than he gets. Anakin of course needs to blamed for making the decision to join him in the first place, but it's Palpatine who manipulated Anakin and twisted his views. He even influenced his political beliefs, I'm sure. Palpatine is a dictator, so I don't know why it hasn't crossed peoples' minds that part of the reason why Anakin supports fascism is because Palpatine convinced him that it was okay.

In fact, almost all of Anakin's unlikeable characteristics in AOTC are due to Palpatine's manipulations. It's partially why Anakin is so arrogant---it's Palpatine who told Anakin that he was ahead of all the other Jedi, and because of this they were jealous and were stopping him from reaching his true potential. Also, in the TPM novel Anakin was not a completely selfless boy who wanted to help others; he also wanted to be the most powerful Jedi ever, even then.

I can't agree with you. I believe that Anakin has to take most of the responsibility for his actions. Yes, Palpatine fed his ego, but Anakin could have rejected the other man's words. Anakin merely wanted to leave Tatooine and experience a series of adventures as a Jedi. If the TPM novel claimed that he wanted to be the most powerful Jedi back then, it failed to capture Anakin's personality from the novel.

As for Padme, I believe she was afraid of losing Anakin. That scene in ROTS said it all. When Anakin had proposed finally telling the Jedi about their marriage, she quickly naysayed the idea. I think she feared that the Jedi would force Anakin to choose between her and them.

While I do agree that Anakin is responsible for his choices, I also think he wouldn't have fallen to the Dark Side if Palpatine were not there. Just like how he wouldn't have redeemed himself if Luke hadn't come along.

Yes, that seems to be true. Anakin was highly attached to Padme, but she was pretty in love with him as well. But honestly, Anakin is blamed for everything that goes wrong in the relationship. People act as if Anakin did a mind trick on Padme and forced her to fall in love with him, and was secretly abusing her. It makes me really, really angry.

And I have not read the TPM novel lately, so the part about Anakin wanting to be the most powerful Jedi may be true or not. I'm not sure.

    Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Well, I guess it depends on the circumstances. Sadly, it's very easy to do evil things. There's many reasons why people do evil---greed, revenge, racism, for the Greater Good, to feel like they fit in, or because they think they are somehow helping people. Anyone can commit evil acts; you don't need to be psychotic are mentally ill to do bad things.

I think some people often let their pride ruin their view of those who fail or make mistakes. Most love identifying with the good guy, the guy who never turns evil and ultimately does the right thing because it boosts their ego. But they label those who "fail" in someway as a "monster" to dehumanize the person/character and thus separate the person/character from themselves because they don't want to identify with the "bad guys."

Ironically, Anakin himself has this mind set. He's vengeful, often against nasty people such as Count Dooku. He even called Grevious a monster. So it's funny when those who hate Anakin have the exact same attitude towards Anakin himself because it played a big part in his fall to the Dark Side.

And would have Anakin redeemed himself if Luke didn't come along? Maybe, but I'm not sure. Like I said, doing evil things is easy, but doing the right thing can be pretty difficult. Maybe he would have found Leia, and then he would have been redeemed.

I think the Mustafar scene displays the fact that Padme was afriad of losing Anakin that and the fact that she died of a broken heart

Yeah, I agree. While Padme lost the will to live because the Republic had become a dictatorship, she also did because Anakin had fallen to the Dark Side.
