I reffer to the famouse debate on wether or not there was Lava on Coruscant. I strongly believe the streaks of light we see in the bottom of the City Planet are artificial lights from traffic and city lights that just go down as far as the eye can see.

Yeah I agree it's just light pollution...it didn't even look like lava. People are just thinking too hard...

I try not to think too hard because it hurts:)I actually strongly believe that it is lava. We might have to wait a couple of years to find out, then we again we may never know, but I'm going with lava.

Maybe if enough of us ask it on the official site they will answer it for us. That Steve Sansweet knows everything.

I say, everybody who reads this should ask this question on the "ask the Jedi Council" on the official site. Maybe if they get enough people asking the same question they will set the record strait. :)

Twelve_Motion, they probably will set the record straight, but not yet. It provides a great factor to argue over. It's one more factor to weigh in when discussing and debating Episode III, and that makes it harder to speculate with accuracy. Personally, I think it is not lava. Of all the substances the scant surface of Coruscant could be made of (ground, water, ice, etc.) why would it be lava? Wouldn't that provide for less than optimal living conditions, and render Coruscant as we know it useless?

I always thought it was just a river of popcorn butter... I could be wrong. The debate lives on.

I can't comprehend how anyone can think that it's lava.

Where have people gotten the lava idea? In Episode I the Naboo pilot said to Anakin something along the lines of: "Coruscant, the planet is one big city." (Can't remember the exact words). I think it's just more lights of the city, because lava wouldn't really make sense...if they had converted the rest of the planet into a pure city why not the lava-patches as well?

I agree though, this would make a good 'Ask The Council' question.

It Is the Exhaust Vents that Belch Fire... We See Anakin And Obi-wan Chase Zam's Speader through it just a few shots later and if you watch the progression of the seen right after the fall you'll notice they go into the Industrial District Next... It's all Lit By that Glowing Orange and Flaming Exhaust Ala Bladerunner... It is he Same Exhaust that is flaming when they Fly through the Power Coupling...

It is Deffinately NOT LAVA CANNALS...

Wouldn't there be alot of smoke if it was these flame outlets? And I don't think its the traffic or lights from buildings below because during the entire chase scene and when Obi-Wan was hanging onto the assasin droid we never see anything like it.

I just figured it was street lights way down in the city. It could have been a grand plaza of sorts which is why you don't see similiar light patterns in other parts of the city. I seriously doubt it was lava.

Why would anyone build mile-high skyscrapers on LAVA?

    It's lights, people.

Yes people, it could be the heat exhausts that power the city maybe its why we see big circles of light from space when they fly over coruscant. This mystery (although agreed by many, myself included, that its city lights)is one of the many reasons I think Coruscant is the most bad-ass planet in the series.

Why would anyone build mile-high skyscrapers on LAVA?

"When I first came here, this was all lava. Everyone said I was daft to build a city on lava, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the lava. So I built a second one. And that one sank into the lava. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, and then sank into the lava. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, son, the strongest city in all of the galaxy." :p

surely there were rivers and oceans on Coruscant, and now they are covered by buildings aswell. Its not highly unprobable. Stop Picking on me :( :p

I recal this debate going on for ages, where are all the people who believe it was lava, why am I the only one here defending it :p Anyway, Ill guess we'll need to wait till E3. If it is not shown again in E3 I will concede that it wasn't lava.

There can't be a debate if everyone rightly agrees that they are streetlights, which they definitely are. This is like asking if Tattooine's moon is really the Death Star making an early appearance.

Coruscant has bo bottom. The buildings go all the way through the core and rise 1000 stories in the air on the other side of the planet as well. It's like the whole planet is a giant ball of Ker-Plunk sticks...
