This thread was inspired by Grilled-Sarlacc.

    Was Watto's chance cube rigged?

Did he have his chance cube specifically weighted on the sides to fall to red?

If it was, Qui-Gon sensed this and intervened with the force. If it was not, would it have landed on blue without Qui-Gon's manipulation of the force, because of Anakin's "Chosen One" Status (Will of the Force)?

If you do have EU material with proof of a rigged chance cube, please provide it.

I believe it was rigged. Qui Gon sensed this and acted accordingly.

If it was not rigged Qui Gon would not have interferred, imo.

Watto seemed truly surprised that he lost the roll.
Seems likely, and in character, that it was rigged.

I would think the general assumption is that Qui-Gon has intervened for the greater good. e wasn't exactly a straight arrow like Kenobi, etc.

Watch that scene on slow-mo. The cube seems to fall unnaturally near the end right before Qui-Gon uses the force. I believe that the cube was weighted, which would also justify the Jedi Master's actions.

Also, did it look like red had four sides and blue had only 2 sides?

Or am I just the victim of a bad camera angle?

Rigged: 4 red and 2 blue. Definitely.

I agree with you. I too think that it would have had a positive outcome without Qui-Gon's intervention. However, it's better to be safe than to be sorry.

I agree with this. It's kind of sad that it never dawned on me before this week that the chance cube was probably rigged. I've watched TPM a ton of times, but just didn't think about it. Of course this also explains why Watto is so ticked when it doesn't fall his way. You can tell he wants to call Qui-Gon on it and Qui-Gon realizes this and knows he has Watto backed into a corner at that point.

That Cube was pretty worn down too by the looks of it. I wonder how many gambles he's won by the roll of it.

It was definently rigged, that is why Watto got so pissed. He just rolled it knowing it was gonna land in favor of him, but for once it didn't and he lost it.

Qui-gon would have cheated whether it was rigged or not. Even if it wasn't rigged, I don't think that he would have left such an important matter to chance. You could say that he would have trusted the will of the Force, but if he was so sure that it was the will of the Force for Anakin to return to Coruscant with him, nothing should have been able to prevent that, so he should have known that it would work out somehow even if he didn't cheat. Anyway, I don't think that jedi mind lying or cheating for the greater good as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. Remember, he lied about where he got a pod racer, and he lied to Shmi about why he took a blood sample from Anakin. Those actions were just as dishonest as rigging the toss, but he did them for the greater good.
