First of all, do they wear wedding rings in the GFFA? If so, what are they like? What metal are they made out of, and what kind of stones are on it?

I'd like this just to add a note of detail into my story.

I think it depends on the planet. It doesn't look like they do that on Naboo... however the only other wedding that I remeber was a Corellian one. The bride wears green I think, but I don't remember if there were rings.

Just make it up. As long as it sounds convincing its all good :)

That's a good question, I've been wondering about that too. Hehe :) I agree with what they said. MAke it up.

In my imagination they have wedding bands. I never pictured gold, just silver ones. That's just my speculation. Make up whatever you want! :) Lata

For a long time, we'd only seen one married couple -- Owen and Beru -- and we've only seen one hand for Anakin and Padme (ringless on both counts). Does anyone remember whether or not Owen and Beru were wearing wedding rings?

Anyway, it would vary from world to world (it varies from culture to culture on Earth!), so go for whatever you need. There seems to be a fairly universal practice of marriage to trade some sort of iconic gift, but it needn't be jewellry unless you want it to be. Go wild!

Look back on history and see how marriage was celebrated. I know there were all kinds of funky practices. Some included kidnapping the bride on the wedding night!

Here is where it is involved in my story, please tell me what you think:

Silly girl, you know that you are part of my family, in effect if not by name.
She looked at him with a soft expression. He took her hand before she could say a word. She looked down. Around her left ring finger was a band of silver metal. It shimmered with red light reflecting off of the Adegan crystals embedded into it.
She smiled and wrapped him in a tight hug.
I thought that I should make it official, he told her.
    I don?t have a ring for you.
Right now I have your arms wrapped around my body. That is enough for me

It sounds very Earth-based--same ring finger, I'm assuming?--but otherwise pretty fair.

Hmmm, I never thought of it that way, using another wedding finger. I guess I just did it this way so that readers would know what it signifies.

Hm, interesting speculation! GFFA marriage practices... which would probably vary, too, from species to species and culture to culture! I mean, polygamy has been hinted at. Even on Earth, there are marriages that are in name only, for business or political reasons while the partners have outside romantic interests. And some early Renaissance wedding practices were rather... R-rated.

    GFFA weddings... hm...

Maybe they could exchange toe rings. Or have to prove themselves to their new spouse in some trial, where maybe her or his family of the same gender tests the new addition to the family.

I think that they way I wrote it may work. It limits the reader to imagining the ring being on the left hand, but which finger is not specified (just "ring finger," which could mean any of them in the GFFA). Vagueness is probably best here.
