Wedge

Wedge was the only Rebel to survive through all three original SW films. Or was he? In ESB, his Y-wing was blown up. How could he have survived to blow the Death Star 2 in RJ?

 

i dont specifically remember Wedge's ship being blown up.. i'd have to re-watch that part to see... but if that is true, remember that Luke's ship was also hit and he survived

 

Wedge was hit in ANH but not blown up.
I don't think he was hit at all in ESB.

And i don´t think he ever did fly a Y-wing, always the X-wing.

 

Yep... Wedge never flew a "Slug" in the movies and in ESB there wasn't even a destroyed Y-Wing... only snowspeeder and stuff

 

Wedge's snowspeeder didn't get hit in ESB, that was a guy called Zev accompanying Luke when his ship was destroyed. I think that's the guy you mean.

 

Yeah, Zev Senesica was the guy in the snowspeeder who bought it, not Wedgie.

And Wedge shoulda flown a Y-wing...Rogue Squadron coulda been made of Y-wings!

 

It has been described on numerous occasions that flying a Y-Wing was like flying a rock.

There were no Y-Wings present at the Battle of Hoth.

Hobbie and Zev both had their snowspeeders get shot down.

 

Hobbie didn't get shot down; he kamikazed into General Veers' AT-AT.

The novel for ESB is EU.

He did get shot down Bib. Do you think that he just decided "Hey, I'm going to ram myself in Blizzard Lead"? His ship was damaged and he was going down, so he decided to hit Veers walker. Essentially he was indeed shot down, his speeder just never hit the ground.

 

Yeah, I was defining "shot down" as "shot and crashed into the ground." Semantics, that's all.

 

Hobbie also survied the "much debated" crash.

Either that or there's a clone of him still running around causing trouble with Janson.

Anyway we see Wedge (or at least I think so) waving to Luke on Hoth as Luke gets in his X-Wing.

It says in the game Rogue Squadron

 

Other than the guy flying the Y-Wing in ANH, Wedge is the luckiest pilot in Star Wars.

 

Sorry, it says in Rogue Squadron that Hobbie has a habit of crashing every ship and surviving. In the ESB novelisation he kamikazes into Veers At-AT at the end of the battle. But he's back in the latter part of the X-Wing series. Piece the two together.
Of course how he survived is a different matter. He probably ejected just before he hit.

 

I wouldn't say that Wedge is just lucky, in my opinion. He's survived too many things to be lucky.

 

Clarifications. I did mean snowspeeder when I said Y-wing. His ship was hit by crossfire.

Wedge's coolest line is "That Got him!" Wedge flies into the ROTJ death star and shoots at the power core. Wedge doesn't get as much screen time as he deserves. He looks different with out his helmet on. He's also one of the squadron leaders in the battle of Endor. It's lucky his ship didn't blow up he wants to live.

 

Hobbie's ship was hit with a ion bolt at Endor and he had to sit out the rest of the battle as an observer.

Wedge is both an excellent pilot and very lucky. Skill can only get one so far, luck takes them the rest of the way. After all of the battles that Wedge has seen, it is a wonder that he has survived them. One day in some battle Wedge will most likely be KIA and that would be the day that his luck ran dry.
