All three of them opened up in the US in August of 1985, competing at the box office. My Science Project was the most low-profile, and the one I didn't see in the theaters. Here we are, almost twenty years later, which is surreal. Let's discuss these classics. My ranking is:

    Real Genius
    Weird Science
    My Science Project

I agree with that order! Those were great movies.

    and Obi-Wan2001...

    "Stop Playing With Yourself!"
    "It is God!" [face_laugh]

    "Wyatt, your kitchen is blue."

"It's snowing in my g****** room, Wyatt!"

    "Bigger t***!"

"Chips, dips, chains, whips, bondage, leather, candle-wax on the nipples... you know, a party."

I would agree with that order as well, although I don't think that Real Genius and Weird Science can readily be compared..

I don't even remember Science Project, but wasn't there another movie, about a kid who makes an atomic bomb in school, that was released around that time as well?

my science project is the movie where a highschol kid finds some device in a military airfield junk yard. Anyways it looks cool so he decides to use it for his science project. He somehow activiates the thing at school and it opens up a whole in the space time continium. Drama and adventure ensues... that is the best i can do since i havent see the movie since i was 9 or so...

Yeah I remember my Science Project.

But the only part I remember was the lady cop asking why the kid wore his shades at night. And something about power lines glowing or something.

And then yes, the school turning into Vietnam or something. Defintely the least favorite of the list.

THE GIRLS: "What are you guys doing in there?"
WYATT: "Oh, me and Gary were just in here taking a ****!"
    GARY: "Excuse me"
    [slaps Wyatt mercilessly]

I believe that's The Manhattan Project you're talking about, Mr44. It came out in the summer of 86. Definately a lot more serious than these three films.

My Science Project is the lesser of the three, but it's still pretty fun. The kids go up against dinosaurs and aliens with laser guns, and there's an ultra wacky Dennis Hopper spoofing his Easy Rider image. It actually just recently came out on DVD in widescreen. There was a separate release some time back in full frame.

Real Genius and Weird Science are comedy classics.

Mitch: "The weirdest thing just happened to me."

Chris Knight: "Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid, with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?"

    Mitch: "No..."

Chris Knight: "Why am I the only one who has that dream?"

I always remembered the theatrical trailer for Real Genius over the years because it contains a cut scene with Chris Knight floating in a lounge chair with balloons outside of his room. As a kid, I wondered why it wasn't in the film. Too bad the DVD doesn't contain any deleted scenes.

Ah, Buckaroo Banzai. When will that durn sequel come out?!? That's a classic as well.

Real Genius is another one of my favorites. Every once in a while I'll see Lazlo in a movie or TV show and say "Hey, it's Lazlo!". It's rare that anyone around me knows what the heck I'm talking about. From time to time, you can spot some of the other actors from Real Genius, but not once have I seen Mitch or the "speed girl" anywhere else.

Weird Science is odd to watch after all these years. I used to think all those women were HOT in their 80's clothes, hair, and make-up. Now they mostly look silly. (Except Kelly LeBrock, hehe.)

Everytime I see Paxton in Apollo 13, Ghosts of the Abyss, etc., I still see Brother Chet, the big pile of turd or whatever he is.

Saw "my science project" once, back in the day. Meh.

How about "WarGames"? Now that's a classic. I remember that the 12" floppy drives and "phone-on" modems and stuff looked super high tech at the time.
I still haven't gotten my computer to beep with each character it puts on screen, nor have I found a good copy of "Globalthermonuclear War".

Jeez, I'm feeling old. I'm going to try and ignore the fact that I'm one wekk away from 30. Ack.

Speaking of Apollo 13, TI1420, that's where you can find Mitch. He's sporting a mustache, working in the NASA control room.

Yeah, the most recent film I saw Lazlo in is The Rundown.

How about poor Kent. Between Real Genius and Bachelor Party, that guy probably got forever typecast as an A-hole.

Have you guys ever noticed the way Kent has his arms and hands behind himself after he says, "Ok God, let me have it!"? When the laser beam starts on the popcorn, and Kent gets all into it, thinking it's an act of God. Look at his arms and hands, it's hilarious.

I'll have to look for Mitch in Apollo 13. Interesting that he is sporting a moustache.

Seems like Lazlo was on CSI or one of those crime shows in the last couple months.

Still no sightings of (dang, can't remember her name!) the speedy gal.

Yah, Kent is quite odd in that scene. Looks like he's having some sort of spiritual orgasm.

I know it would almost certainly suck, but I always thought a sequel to Real Genius would be kinda cool. See what happened to everyone. Ooo! I'll start a thread for specualtion....
