Why are they so afraid of him?. is there a chance they are frightened by his unusual Force Power?. He is Supposed to be the Chosen one, so why does he not get on the Fast track to Masterhood, and leadership? he was meant to be the Future of the Jedi. the greatest ever.and he was clearly portrayed as Superior to almost all Jedi. so why do they keep him at arms length instead of embracing him. they knew he was different. he was trained at a late age, he has attachments. Anakin should have benn given special care, and Status. HE WAS THE CHOSEN ONE. that IS why the accepted him. did they have a change of heart in believing this conflicted boy/Man could be it?. they had it backwards , the more he was troubled the closer they should have drawn him in, not let him go to Palpatine for Kinship.

DUGGY,this is a great thread but i fear that in no time it will be full of anti-anakin legions arguing taht he was not special and that he didnt deserve to be a master and how much he sucks and that the jedi were perfect and didnt have anything to do with his downfall and that palpatine was not responsible for his fall:eek: and all that arguments that you even see in the "Episode III pictures " thread

I feel because he was already being taught so late to start with they wanted to slow it down a bit. I think they knew he was special and what to cross every T and dot every I in his teaching. Also they never really wanted to train him in the first place. Had that been any old kid who was found to have a high midio-count they would have refused. I think the Jedi were to blame in part for Anakin's demise for compromising their teaching mandates because of the prophecy. I don't feel they were afraid of him as in him confronting them but more of a careful afraid. For his own good. I also believe he never would have been placed on the council at a peaceful time of the Republic no matter what Palpatine requested.

I don't know about fear, but it seemed that certain jedi, especially mace, weren't too fond of anakin. Also, did the jedi (as a whole) ever even believe anakin was the chosen one? To me there seemed to be a lot of doubts in the jedi, save for qui-gon and obi-wan.

I would have to say the Masters were afraid of change, they had no reason to change in their eyes, due to the lack of a sith presence for 1000 years. Now with TPM and the emergence of the chosen 1, they are in a transitionary period, they allow Anakin's training and the at the end of AOTC the clone wars begin and the whole Jedi institution is a a state of flux. Now the Jedi are generals whereas before they were meer keepers of the peace. Yeah so they feared change. The appearance of the Sith and their inability to change their teachings to cope with the Sith problem and the training of the chosen one, spelled the doom of the Jedi order.

I wonder if the Masters were afraid . [face_thinking] they are older and think they are wiser . and Yoda has been around for 900 years or so, and along comes this kid with greater potential and Midi's than all of them . i don't think that it is such a stretch that they would feel threatened by this, he was a threat to the Status Quo. Pride is an affliction that even Jedi can succumb to. *cough* Mace * cough*

They do seem quite wary of him. Even when he is just a young boy brought before the council there is quite an unwelcome vibe in the temple.

yeah you feel that sting mace that's pride ******* with you! Anyways yeah some of the Masters may have seen Anakin as a threat to the status quo, due to his midi count. But that really is not apparent on screen, but I would have to speculate that some Jedi would feel jealous at the least and possibly threatened.

the prophecy didnt say that he would bring balance before turning so his job as chosen he did quite well, even kiling himself in the process. his job as a jedi is what he screwed up big time.

The Jedi were cautious with Anakin at first. Such extraordinary power wielded by a total mook is dangerous, so there is real cause for concern.

But as Anakin grew the Council put their trust and faith in him. Obi-Wan grew worried because Anakin became more petulant and puberty made him stupid and clumsy, but Mace reminded Obi-Wan that Anakin was to bring balance to the Force.

The tide shifted and the Council grew weary of Anakin because his common sense didn't mature with his powers. He was like a 3 year old running around with Cutco scissors.

Palpatine never thought Anakin was great or wise - he just stroked Anakin's ego. And he seduced Anakin with lies and half truths. Palpatine knew the Council were concerned about Anakin, not because they feared his power or were jealous, but because they were worried Anakin wasn't mentally equipped to deal with his power.

but he was too old, and formed attachments. how is a little boy to blame for that?.

But as Anakin grew the Council put their trust and faith in him. Obi-Wan grew worried because Anakin became more petulant and puberty made him stupid and clumsy, but Mace reminded Obi-Wan that Anakin was to bring balance to the Force.

Stupid and clumsey, at Puberty?. that is cause for alarm. Obviously Jedi can't handle individuals that were not taken from their families before they even knew what was happenning so they can be Programmed in the Jedi Fashion.

The tide shifted and the Council grew weary of Anakin because his common sense didn't mature with his powers. He was like a 3 year old running around with Cutco scissors.

when did this change happen?. Anakin was a trusted hero at the beginning of ROTS. so i guess that little disagreement in the Council Chamber about whether or not the War Hero/ chosen one is worthy to be a Master turned them against him then , huh?

Palpatine never thought Anakin was great or wise - he just stroked Anakin's ego. And he seduced Anakin with lies and half truths.

" Darth Vader will become more powerful than Either of us! "
Sounds like he had more faith in Anakin than the Council did.

Palpatine knew the Council were concerned about Anakin, not because they feared his power or were jealous, but because they were worried Anakin wasn't mentally equipped to deal with his power.

like the Quote say's " Darth Vader will become more powerful than Either of us ". Palpatine had all the confidence and Faith in Anakin that the Jedi should have. he actually put him on a Pedatle by saying that. sure he was Evil. but what a Mentor. 100% results. the Wiser Jedi should have seen the Influence of Palps and not try to punish Anakin for it , ten+ years into allowing the friendship.

They were afraid. They were afraid that he would become unstable and turn into their enemy. His future was clouded. He had attachments. And he had all kinds of negative emotions. Fast tracking Anakin to being a Master only makes things worse, as that feeds into his ego and greediness. Anakin didn't deserve to a Master, much less a Knight. He was not ready.

When you think about it, the Jedi were scared of him for the very reason that Palps was dying to get him. They sensed the uncertainty with him, along with the fear and all the other stuff they thought might him a great Sith. He was a force to be reckoned with, no doubt about it. The Jedi were definitely scared of him IMO because of his fragility mixed with unbridled power.

    Everyone was afraid of Anakin.

The Council, Palpatine, everybody. They all feared his power and what it ment for them: an end to, or at least a change in, thier way of life.

The only people who weren't afraid of Anakin (force-user wise) were Qui-Gon, and later Obi-Wan.

Perhaps his future was Clouded because the Jedi were Clouded. They admittedly could not tell The Sith had returned. they admitted they had diminished Force Abaility. they resorted to doing desperate things like Spying etc... clearly the Jedi Judgement in the PT is flawed. so how could they be so certain Anakin was bad news When they themselves admit they are blind. perhaps about a " great many things " .

No, he was clouded. He could become good or evil, depending on if he could let go of his attachments or not. They couldn't even see one positive or negative future from him.

well did they IYO do anything practical or useful to help him?, NO. they just do business as usual, and then damn him for not getting with the program, or letting go. if they take him in with attachments and behaviour problems, then it IS their responsibility to sort the boy out. and they don't. he was a Experiment of sorts. the Jedi accept him then when Anakin does not behave as a Jedi is "SUPPOSED" they regard him with Apathy. they hold a brunt of responsibility for his not letting go. who is to teach him . if not them.Anakin is the Personification of the Jedi's Flaws/Inabilities in the Pt. But he sure comes in Handy when ya need to rescue the Chancellor, or you need a War Hero. lol

But the cloudiness would be in the eye of the beholder. The council were the ones doing the "seeing". Like Yoda later says, always in motion, the future is. So really any vision of the future would be cloudy to them. I wouldnt doubt the Jedi used future telling as a kind of a ruse to increase their importance to the Senate. Or they were really just kidding themselves at that point.

They may have been afraid of Anakin just because the kid gave them the creeps. He was also better looking than any of them. :p
