Were X Wings alot bigger then TIE Fighters. I thought they were alot bigger but the X Wing did not seem that big

You'd think TIE Fighters are bigger, what with the size of their wings. I mean, there's no better target than a big gray square moving through space.

They were in the same general class size. The X-Wings were roughly the same size, only longer.

But they mostly get to see the TIEs from behind, and that's a very small and thin target area.
you only see big squares from the side, and then they'd be moving targets

Not to mention the fact that Ties are quicker...

As others said, in length, an X-wing is about twice as long... and the big gray boxes are moving to fast to get an easy side shot, which is why most hits are on the small rear profile.
