My question is..did Boss Nass not understand Qui-Gon's "request" for a speeder?

Other way around. Qui-gon and Obi-wan didn't know what the hell a Bongo was. Usually someone says speeder or transport. Nass knew that the fastest way to Theed was to take a Bongo and go through the core. Both these things are important in getting there quickly.

 

Right. They were inferring from "wesa gonna speed yousaway" that a "bongo" was some sort of transport...hopefully...which it turned out to be. What I've always wondered is does this mean that Boss Nass is "weak-minded"? I mean, Gungans seem stupid to begin with...

 

Nah, bongos are a set of drums. They then used the bongos to smack someone over the head with to get the little submarine.

 

Qui-Gon requested for a transport, and that's what he got.

 

What makes you think that an underwater culture has speeders?

 

Hey, you never know. An underwater made speeder is possible. As to Gungans being weak minded. We only see Qui-gon use the mind trick on Boss Nass. He might be weak minded as it is.
