Hi all. I've been collecting SW books for a few years and wanted to get your thoughts on the hardest to find/rarest SW hardcover books. I haven't been able to find a master list that shows everything that was published in HC, so hopefully this thread will uncover some rare items for me to seek out. Here are some of the ones I already have:

    Complete NJO series in hardcover
    Lando Calrissian and Mindharp...
    Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind...
    Tales ominbus
    Han Solo trilogy
    Jedi Academy trilogy
    Young Jedi Knights series
    Black Fleet Crisis trilogy
    Correlian trilogy
    Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy

    Thanks!

Well, most of those are the Sci-Fi Book Club hardcover exclusives, which would likely be the hardest novel hardcovers to come across since they're not available through other retailers. So you're best bet would probably be to find a list of the SFBC exclusives and that would cover most of the territory for the subject, as most any of the other SW books released in hardcover can probably be acquired wih minimal effort through book stores, used bookstores or ebay.

The original hardcover novelization of the orginal movie. The one with the gold cover (like the early paperback printings) NOT the sci-fi book club one. I've seen it go for $200.00 before on Ebay. There are also mass-market hardcovers for the 1st two Han Solo books ("Star's End" and "Revenge") as well as "Splinter of the Mind's Eye". These are also not the bookclub versions. For some reason the last "Solo" book and the "Lando" books were not released in HC,(again, with the exception of the bookclub versions, and the 3rd Lando book was not even released by the bookclub for some reason).

    The Thrawn quintology?
I see at least the original 3 as being rare or collector's editions simply because those are some of the earliest novel works written.

If they are it would be book club editions.

Katana, I doubt it is valuable. There are still a lot of those floating around. The MMP are more available, of course, and that's what you'll find at your local Borders, etc. - but if you keep your eyes open, you'll find the old hardcovers of TTT in a used bookstore from time to time. They're not terribly valuable yet.

I have all the books in hardcover that you have listed. I got most of them from the Science Fiction Book Club. They are not that rare. You can buy all of them on Ebay. The two Lando Adventure hardcover books and the three Han Solo Adventure hardcover books, I bought off Ebay years ago. The third Lando Adventure book was never published in hardcover for some reason.

I would venture to guess that the HC of "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" may be tough to find, even if it was mass-market. I think it was only published in HC back when it came out - I read a copy borrowed from a library years ago, but that's the only HC I've seen of that title.

Splinter of the Mind's Eye came out in hardcover in february 1978, followed by a paperback in March 1978... (and then there's the SFBC hardcover, which is readily available on the Internet, as opposed to the original 1978 hardcover)

this is great -- really helpful. definitely seems like the original retail editions of the earliest books are the rarest/most expensive.

SOTE was a hardcover wasn't it? I saw it in hardcover but it was nothing special, just paperback-sized book with a hardcover.

    Should I have bought it?

Paperback size? SOTE was a regular-size hardcover, but I have (rarely) seen 'library edition' PB-size hardcovers. I can't see why they would do that for a book that came out as a traditional hardcover, though.

If you mean TPB size, it was probably one of the SFBC ones. They run (or used to) slightly smaller than normal hardcovers.

My guess is that it was a book that was rebound by a library to be sturdier.

No it wasn't, it was in a bookshop a few years ago and had the art on it and everything. It was a paper-back sized hardcover

Nope. at Angus & Robertson. The book was a little faded though which is probably why I didn't get it.

I picked up the Fall of the Diversity Alliance YJK hardcover at a used bookstore a few weeks back. Cost me 30 bucks, but it's in pristine condition. Thinking I might go back and pick up the Shadown Academy hardcover. Didn't see the final one though.
