Either that or they were caused by a disease called Lupus which Seal suffered from when he was a child. The particular strain from which Seal suffers causes blistering especially around the facial area, which when ruptured cause deep scarring. (Hey, thanks Google)

Those are obviously scars from a large predator, most possibly an Orca.

As most people know, Orca, or the more commonly used name, Killer Whale, eat Seals as their primary source of food. The picture below shall illustrate what lengths an Orca will go to to secure a fine meal o' Seal:

It is more than apparent that he sustained these scars when an Orca, possibly a large one, tried to secure this Seal as food while he was swimming off of the coast of Costa Rica.

Sir David Attenborough,[image=http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2004/03.25/photos/profiles-200.jpg] of Trials of Life fame, has said that while this Seal lives daily with his scars, he may someday be able to rejoin the pod of Seals from which he was spawned.

However, if he is NOT accepted by his pod, there is hope!

Yes, an organization that is trained in the capture and training of young, hurt animals has offered to give Seal a new home!

Sea World of Orlando Florida has offered to train Seal and let him live and eat like their other famous stars!
