In Star by Star, after they are abandoned by their dark side companions and along with them, their unconscious comrade, Raynar Thul...... A little while later, the Jedi Knights feel a surge in the force, which "could" have been strong enough to be Raynar Thul's death.........

Before Raynar was struck by the Voxyn's tail and numbed by Tekli......he was walking very close to the dark side.......his friend/lover Lusa was killed, and then his new love interest Eeryl was killed......at this point, Raynar was being blinded by his rage.......

IMO Raynar is not dead, but rather has been turned to the dark side by Lomi and Welk..... when Jayna turns to the dark side later on in this novel, Jacen for a moment believes that Jayna is dead.......if raynar turned to the dark side, they would probably be unable to feel him also...........

I hope to see a return in the near future of a new dark side Raynar...............

    your thoughts please....................

I remember it being left very open so I'm not gonna say untill an official source says one way or the other. (But I do hope hes alive, that "strike force" lost way to much, lossing Raynor would just be insult to injury.)

i hope he isn't dead but the odds of him still being alive are slim and none. i really liked raynar even since YJK. i believe that he is dead but part of me won't believe it til i see the body (if there was a body)

I reckon he's alive. They wouldn't leave it so vague if he really was dead. The fact that no-one knows if he's alive or dead means he's alive, IMO. Otherwise, the authors would just say that he had died.

The NJO Sourcebook basically says that the entire Strike team felt the death of a Jedi after the Tacyon Flier left the Yuuzhan Vongs POS Worldship, in other words they felt his death, maybe Lomi Plo and Welk survived and escaped but Raynar didnt have a chance, maybe he woke up during their escape and tried to stop them from leaving the others but was killed or injured but nobody knows,DJ implies that he is alive a prisoner of the two Dark Jedi, but that belief is meaningless because the strike team has no idea what happened to him.

In the ever becoming soap opera that is dubbed the NJO, I think there's a strong chance that Raynar is alive. If any of you have ever watched soap operas (yes sadly I have :() then you know that it is extremely rare if characters actually do die. That allows the writers of the show to bring them back at future dates in order to boost ratings.

I think a similar thing has occurred here with Raynar. It wouldn't be hard for the authors to explain if/how Raynar survived and it will definitely be a nice kick in the pants if he returns as a Dark Jedi or something along those lines. I don't think we'll see Raynar in the NJO, but maybe in post-NJO novels when its the Jedi pitted against the Sith once more. Raynar would make a very fitting archenemy of Jacen in later novels.

When the strike team felt Lomi and Welk's pain, they thought it was that of missing Jedi comrades. Hence, they could easily feel Lomi and/or Welk's death and presume it was Raynar's. We know from DJ that the ship escaped the Myrkr system. Both SbS and NJOSB have been surprisingly cryptic on the matter. Hence, i think there's a high chance of Raynar still being alive.

A situation where Raynar gives into his anger could be him waking up to find that the Dark Jedi have betrayed them and attacking them, killing at least one. That would leave him far behind enemy lines, with no direct way of returning to base as his craft doesn't have the capability to detect and steer around dovin basal mines that Nom Anor's had (plus the nagging fact that he has no clue where home base is, since Coruscant and Eclipse are no longer in usage by the NR and Jedi. In this situation, he will need his Force abilities to survive, and he is already to close to the Dark Side as it is.
