A silly name for a thread I admit, but really, does Vader REALLY spend all his spare time fighting remotes. What does Palpatine do? What did he do with all that money he takes through taxes and downgrading technology?

Vader accepts Captain Needa's apology in his free time.

Palpatine talks to himself in his free time.

They do not really seem to have had that much free time, almost everything was connected to their machinations and aspirations. Palpatine studied Force lore and wrote his books, but he did have his enslaved concubines. Poor Vader mostly trained himself, apparently also tinkered with his suit and perhaps with other mechanical things, and plotted.

I imagine Vader spends a lot of his time in his eggshell, meditating.

Well if Dark Lord is any indication, Vader spends most of his time whining while Palps castigates him for it.

    Force-assisted table tennis?

And I suspect that Vader drinks heavily. If he can find a long enough straw.

Well, he did train under Obi-Wan...

...and why use a straw when he can get it all intravenously?

Vader watches Tim Minear shows and messages the FOX network with "I find your lack of faith disturbing" post-its when they're cancelled.

As for Palpatine, I dunno... he strikes me as one of those guys who goes to play chess in Central Park. He probably takes his own chair though.

Wait. I just realized something: Palpatine has canonical hobbies.

In his spare time, he writes, and he designs over the top ways to hurt things.

What does Palpatine do in his spare time?

    Mara Jade, of course.

Apparently Vader kept up his mechanical hobbies. There's a large workshop in Bast Castle strewn with a variety of electronics-- and a disassembled TIE Advanced.

On another note, what DID Palpatine do with all his money besides building weapons?

Well, we got SOME indication of it in both Shadows of the Empire and Allegiance: research, investigation, back-dealing, dirt-gathering, meditation, plotting, etc.

Read the first few strips of Evasive Action: Recruitment.

Ordinarily I'd post snippets here--like we can with a single comic page--but I am unsure how that applies to Hyperspace comics etc. With modly permission, though, I'd gladly do so.

Strangely enough, he was a patron of the arts.

I thought that was just his deranged son who did that.

    Nope.

DE confirms Palpy's wrote books. I assume that means he spends a great deal of his spare time studying, too.

As for hurting things? Palpatine's Empire is known for its flamboyant superweapons. Think it stops there? Take a look at chrysalides: they're rancors, except bigger, tougher, and they have spikes. Walkers would have been easier and more effective, but chrysalides are cool.

At least he has a flare for style.

Hitler was a painter and later in life became a vegetarian, so I guess it's not that strange...

Being a failed painter and supporting the high arts are two completely incomparable things.

Not really. Both show some appreciation for the arts.

Both of them also possess nostrils. Clearly they are alike.
