Saga What does the Star Wars universe smell like?

The Star Wars films are largely visual, but did you ever wonder how things smell in a galaxy far, far away? What's the scent of a blaster bolt? A lightsaber? A wookie? Is there such a thing as new landspeeder smell? You get the idea...

 

What an incredible smell you've discovered.

 

Deserts and rubber masks.

 

These days, it probably has the aroma of freshly hung green-screens.

 

Star Wars novels (and films and the like) don't tend to describe smells too much. Blaster bolts apparently give some kind of ozone smell. Tusken wraps tend to have an unbearable stench (they don't really have any way to clean them).

 

In the original SW booklet they sold at the movie theater in 1977 and 78 the Jawas were described as giving off an intolerable bad smell which constantly drew small insects to them.
Otherwise not much info is given about smells. I'm assuming a desert would smell like a desert on Earth (maybe with a hint of spice cinnamon in the air ), the inside of the Falcon or other older ships probably has some sort of "electrical" ozone-type, maybe slightly oily smell to it. The inside of the DS or star destroyer has some sort of new clean "metallic" smell.
Mustafar must smell mainly of lava and smoke, Endor has a woodsy smell of trees, ferns etc., the Lake Country on Naboo probably smells of fresh water and rich meadows, Yavin IV has a rich tropical humid earthy smell of rain forest-type vegetation. Dagobah - probably swampy, mossy, moist, with a hint of rotted wood.

 

I don't know but every time I see a desert planet all I can think of regarding smell is Twentynine Palms, California. That's not compliment....

 

Feluscia smells of Mushrooms.

I found this scratch and sniff book probably about ten years ago at a thrift store, but didn't buy it (I've been kicking myself ever since, believe me). I can still remember what Greedo smelled like.

 

Is that real? It's hilarious if it is.

So, what DOES Greedo smell like?

 

He smelled like something between garlic and body odour. From what I remember, it was a pretty nasty book. That's probably why I didn't buy it.

Except for Ben Kenobi, everyone (including a 7' wookie), squeezed into one smuggling compartment on the Millennium Falcon. Ben got his own. Is it any wonder the sandpeople ran when they smel..er..saw him coming?

The only time I know of that smell is actually mentioned IN a SW movie is Leia's first line to Tarkin (but that was just an insult of course) and inside the trash compactor. But I never got any idea how exactly a room full of rusty metal is supposed to smell like, other than rusty metal. Or was it actually some kind of sewer? I had always thought just a metal recycling facility.

 

You're forgetting the Han Solo/Tauntaun scene in ESB.

 

And before that, when the wampa's about to attack:

"Steady, girl, steady. What's the matter? You smell something?"

 

There is a moment in the aftermath book, were someone says jawas smell bad.
and I assume in space fights it smells like burning electricity.
