I know this question may seem a bit "newbie", but I was wondering, what exactly happened to all the Battle Droids after Episode 3? Were they all destroyed? Surely they could not have been all destroyed. Or were they simply abandoned somewhere and forgotten? Would it be possible for a character to rebuild/re-assemble a new army of battle droids after Return of the Jedi?

Shut down and scrapped, I would think.

Remember Anakin shuts down all the droids after slaughtering the seperatist leaders. After that, probably the planets they were on had people who scavenged them. Scrap metal, artifacts and souveniers me thinks.

No one knows for sure, but Galactic Records show that Jawa profits took a huge spike in the third quarter 19 BBY...

    But seriously...

Actually, does anyone remember that an old droideka was resurrected (or so the heroes thought) in one of the EU Novels? Can't remember which one. The one where Han and Leia "disguise" themselves in a cantina in order to gather information or something like that...

After Vader ordered the Driod armies shut down, I find it highly likely that planetary governments would have the armies destroyed. If your fimilar with Battle Front 2, some Genonosian (I forget the name) restarts a Driod army factory on Mustafar. The 501st is sent in to put down the Driod Rebellion, kill the Genonosian and destroy all blueprints with allowed the individual to attempt recreating the Driod army. This is a very low level of canon, however.

Vader and Sidious shut them down and probably had them destroyed. In the months following Order 66 and the creation of the Empire, the droid armies were the only things that could challenge the Sith and their Clones. There's no way Sidious would have let the corporations retain such vast military resources. He'd probably nationalize them right away, in the name of galactic security. They probably had private security still, but nothing like the stockpile of droids that we saw at Geonosis.

seems to me that poetic justice would indicate that the metals recovered after scrapping the Droid army went into construction of the Death Star...:)

I thought that too, but I still think there's an EU book that will exploit that, just like they did in the THRAWN TRILOGY with the Katana Fleet. I'm sure some OVERLORD will find those droids in SOME EU NOVEL, and automatically have an overwhelming army. Just don't see them being scraped. Fighters are fighters even if they are driods. If you have tens of thousands of droids at your disposal, it automatically elevates your credibility as an opponent, also helping you to not waste your manpower? Use them to your fullest extent IMO. One day some author will approach this as a pivotal pawn in a bigger picture with their novel. Who cares if the TPM droids are canon fodder. The destroyer droids were infinetely better. Tens of thousands of them are still a fromidable foe, even if you have a Jedi Army. Hell, the Stormtroopers were clones(canon fodder) but they still instilled fear and posed a formidable barrier when confronted.

In Dark Lord some Jedi running used an old droid ship to get away from Vader. They were able to activate the ship and droids long enough to get away (if I recall correctly).

Ah! But they're NOT shut down.

Palpatine tells Anakin to "send a message to the Trade Federation". But he never sends that message. He is distracted by the arrival of Padme.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see them in the upcoming television series. Nor if we see some additional Jedi ("the remaining Jedi will be hunted down and defeated...").

The Galactic Empire confiscated them all and used them to staff their Galaxy-wide chain of "Imperial Burger" restaurants! There's nothing like a blaster-broiled burger to feed the dark side in you, and modified B1 Battle Droids serve 'em up hot and fresh!

"I'd like a double nerf burger with cheese, easy on the mayo, with fries and a large bribb juice."

Too bad the Rebels couldn't get their hands on some old droids. Some reprogrammed Droidekas, Gunships and Hailfires would have turned the tide of Hoth!

Yes, they would've been fun for the AT-ATs to step on. :p

Well, one rocket from a Hailfire took out a walker in AOTC, I'm sure a barrage of 10 or so would pelt an AT-AT to pieces.

Indeed, we never see Anakin actually send a message, but it did happen. Either Anakin sent the message right before he went out to meet Padme, or when Palpatine went to Mustafar, he sent the message. We know it happens because in the Dark Lord EU novel, Palpatine comments to Bail Organa that it's still a mystery why the driod units lay lifeless on the various planets.

Well, we don't have to see him do it to understand that it happened. The dialogue conveys the idea that the Clone Wars have, after the Mustafar slaughter, effectively ended. In TPM, Captain Panaka tells that guy to check the transmission generator. He runs off and we don't actually see him check anything, but we can assume that it happens.

Right! I think we have to assume that the shutdown message was sent even though we don't see it happen.

They all got old, rusty, and broken down. And the empire decided not to put them back into mass production because they could just use the clones.

Well, Anakin COULD have shut them down as you describe, or he COULD NOT have. It's both and it's neither. It has to be one or the other, but because it's not shown, it's possible it didn't happen. It has always suited Lucas' purposes to leave some things ambiguous, which allows him to capitalise on certain situations later on.

Well, going by BF2, you have to hit the Critical Point ( either that or the AT-TE had already been hit by a bunch of missiles we didn't see ). The AT-AT seems bigger than the AT-TE, and the AT-AT's Critical Point is, well, you know, so it would probably be harder to hit from a droid that for some reason cannot fly and has to roll around on the ground.
Basically, if you get in a hailfire in the game, and start firing missiles at an AT-TE, it takes a lot more than one missile to take the thing down.

This may be yet another example of "artistic license".....

Yeah, the games are pretty goofy. I think you have to shoot a standard battledroid about 10 times before they drop, and that's with a Clone Troopers combat rifle. These are the same rifles that, in AOTC, are capable of smoking a Droideka with a single burst.
