One of the things I like best about SW is how any nitpicky question about some technical thing can be playfully batted around, and usually explained given enough thought.

But here's one that I cant think of a satisfactory explination for: At the end of the film, where Yoda explaines that the war has begun, there are clearly no other chairs in the room. Why were they taken out?

    Possible explinations:

    1. the room is needed for other things, therefore the chairs where moved out. I dont buy this one, since i figured that the JC room is a swanky place with a permanent purpose and not a Holiday Inn convention room with foldable chairs. Anyway, those seats looked fixed to the floor, not like those cushy ottomans Mace sat on while talking to Yoda.

    2. All the Jedi who sat in those chairs were dead, so they took the chairs out. Hmmmm. Still not buying it, unless each Jedi's chair was like a superspecial chair that was personalized for each Jedi. Therefore a desceased Jedi's chair would be taken to a special chair room. And even then, I don't think all the JC members except Yoda died, so there would still be more chairs.

    3. It's a diffrent room. This is my best guess, but it's not a fun answer, and why would there be a room with one squat, fixed position chair in it. Hmmm. Maybe it's Yoda's restroom.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

From the Ep2 DVD Text Commentary (DVD-ROM feature using dvd.starwars.com):

"This is the Jedi Council Chamber; the missing chairs are meant to imply the deaths of many Jedi, though which ones lived and died is kept vague to keep possibilities open for Episode III."

Well, if that's what the offical word is, than I guess that's it.

But like I said in my second point, why is there only one chair in the room?

You only saw one chair in the room, because of the angle. They didn't pan around the room.

And yes, I thought the symbolism was extremely obvious... the missing chairs were removed in respect to the Jedi who were lost. I thought that was a powerful (and obvious) moment in the film... You look around and see Yoda sitting alone, where once there were so many surrounding him.

As he said, the Clone War (i.e., the purge) has begun............

I've always thought it was just a bit of foreshadowing.

"To leave open possibilities for Episode III". Bah. What possibilies? When all the chairs are gone - all the chairs are gone. They could have left Mace Windu's chair in there, although he does act suspiciously dead.

Well Yoda made sure they kept his chair there.

"Take my comfortable chair, you will not hmmm"

But its just meant as G-S said from text commentary to imply many Jedi's deaths and give it a desolate feel.

According to what I have learned, other than Mace and Yoda, Ki-Adi Mundi, Adi Gallia, Plo Koon, and Depa Billaba (she didn't attend the fighting I believe), all survived. So, there should be at least six chairs in the Jedi Council chamber. Perhaps they are pushed to one side or were taken out for the time being.

Maybe ST but remember that they may not have Adi Gallia, Depa Billaba, Koon or Mundi in the next film, so its safe to say they want to leave the options open.

Good point. But I think they'll end up showing Ki-Adi Mundi again at least. He isn't an importaint character, but he's had speaking lines in each prequel episode and other than Yoda and Mace, he's the council member who get's focused on the most.

Plus he's cool! He can't die before Episode III! :_| :_|

    I cannot believe you guys!

    Was it not obvious that the other seats were missing because they just had the floor waxed! 8-}

Yoda actually does the waxing himself, and did it with the same speed in which he fought Dooku. He uses an old set of Jedi robes and some of Jocasta Nu's homemade wax.

I'm sorry I could not help it. It is just too early in the morning right now to be serious, plus I have a meeting I will be in for nearly 3 hours! :(

    Darth Sin!

Huh? This has been discussed many times before. Doesn't the novelization say that this is NOT the counsil chamber, but actually Yoda's apartment, thus his chair only?

It would have been kinda funny if the camera had panned over just a little more, and we could have see all the chairs upside-down on top of tables in preparation for floor waxing...

The chairs must lower from the ceiling like the Cone of Silence from Get Smart... ;;D

So far, three council members died at Geonosis:

    -Coleman Trebor (shot by Jango)
-Eeth Koth (died during the Geonosis battle at some unknown point)
-Saesee Tiin (died during the Geonosis battle at some unknown point)

Personally, I wouldn't want to be whoever it is who gets to fill in Poof's/Coleman's chair...that chair is bad luck! [face_batting]

I don't think Eeth Koth is dead. He wasn't even *in* AOTC, they just used his "performance" from TPM in the council scene.

If Eeth Koth is really dead, I will be extremely pissed.

    >> If Eeth Koth is really dead, I will be extremely pissed.<<

His death was mentioned in a sourcebook (Power of the Jedi), and although an EU source, I don't think they would do something like that if they didn't have permission to do so.

When does that EU source say Eeth died? He didn't go to Geonosis in the movie.

edit: Oh, you've already answered this. I don't see how he could die on Geonosis if he didn't even go there. GL should have at least showed him, even if they got a different actor to play him like they did with Saesee Tin. I know Hasbro is making a new Eeth Koth toy for the '03 lineup, but I'm not sure which movie they are going to say he's from. It will be very interesting to see what happens to my second favorite minor Jedi. I will be extremely pissed if he doens't go down fighting Vader in an epic duel in III.

I believe it is the Jedi Council room.
I think most of the council has been killed.

But how many Jedi are left in the Galaxy?

From the opening text of AOTC and througout the film we are given the impression that there aren't too many Jedi out there. So after the Arena Battale the number of Jedi has fallen. Darth Sidious should have an easier to getting rid of the Jedi now, there can't be too many left to purge after Geonosis.

Adi Gallia wasn't in the arena that was Stass Allie her cousin, the only time you see Adi Gallia is in the jedi council scene, but that was just cut from episode I. It is an easy mistake to make, I thought it was Gallia at first but someone asked this question on the original site and was answered by Rick McCalluim. If you go on the databank on the original site and go on characters look for Stass Allie and it explains every think.

Man Its gonna be depressing see the remaining Jedi left get eliminated!! :(

That is only an EU source that says they are dead though. Eeth Koth dying I can by but not Saesee Tiin. Saesee made it out of the arena and I think they implied that all the jedi making it out of the arena survive so I think he is still alive. Koth could've gone and died in the arena and they just didn't show it though.

Trebor is definitely dead but that is all. I somehow doubt any of the other council members died though. We know Billaba and Shaak Ti are alive as they will be featured in Clone War novels so they can't be dead. Mace and Yoda are obviously alive. Ki Adi and Plo also probably lived. I don't think Oppo or Even went either so they should still be alive as well.
