    Hello all.

Recently I was wondering where Ganner Rhysode has ended up. It's quite hard for me to find the NJO-books, so it would be really, really nice if someone would take the time to give me a short overview about what one of my favourite Jedi has been up to and if there's a NJO-book where he has more than a marginal role.

Thanks a lot in advance :)

I don't know how spoiler-heavy you want it, so I'll just tell you to check out the book Traitor, by Matthew Stover. Ganner has a important role in that book.

    SPOILERS------------------

He was as far as we know the soul Jedi to search for Jacen and attempt rescuing him.

He found him, and eventually helped him escape the Yuuzhan Vong by killing thousands of Yuuzhan Vong warriors/creatures by sacrificing himself to protect Jacen.

No need for spoiler warnings. The book has been out for well over a month.

    Ganner's fate, in haiku:

    Ganner Rhysode is
no more. All that is left now
    became "The Ganner."

    Jacen could escape

Why is it that so many people believe Anakin will be back, and so few think that Ganner will be back? In my opinion, the facts point towards a Ganner return long before an Anakin return. I mean, when last we saw him Ganner had yet to take a fatal wound (his problem was too many minor wounds), we know that the Yuuzhan Vong like taking prisoners (especially if they?re Jedi), and no point of view character has seen the body.

The only evidence of his death is that he brought down the house (literally), and that Jacen sensed him die. But he might have survived the destruction that he caused, through a last second clever use of the Force or just plain old dumb lock, and we know that Jacen?s senses are not infallible. Come to think of it, Vergere might have deliberately clouded Jacen?s senses and made him think that Ganner was dead in order to get him moving ? it would be very much like Vergere.

So, why is that so many people are presuming that Anakin is returning but so few are presuming that Ganner is returning? The evidence that Anakin is gone is pretty solid, the evidence that Ganner is gone is pretty flimsy, but people are supposing that Anakin is going to return and Ganner is not.

He turned into a ball of light, didn't he? Well, something odd happened back there . . .

I don't think either will return but either does Ganner would make more sense.

To ease the sting of one of your favorite characters dying, you should know that his death scene is probably the most well-written in the NJO series to date. He literally goes out as a legend.

I think it's more likely Ganner will return to the NJO than Anakin. We never saw a Ganner body.

He did go out a legend, and it was definately the best written.

(No offense intended towards the deaths of Chewie and Anakin)

    None taken! ;)

Anakin's "death" was written too ambiguously (since, y'know, he's not dead ;)) and Chewie's, while great in his defiance, simply didn't have the great narrative of MWS's writing... :)

Several Yuuzhan Vong told Supreme Overlord Shimraa about a figure called the Ganner that was being worshipped by the shamed ones and mentioned that ganner was killed in DW.

Thank you all very very much for taking the time to answer my question. :)

"Traitor" is definitely a book I'll have to read (Christmas is coming...)
I just gave up reading the NJO-series since the books are so hard to get over here.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that he went out with a bang, so to speak and - did I mention I loved your detailed and informative answers? :)

Now, what exactly is "the Ganner" supposed to mean? As far as I understand this "Ganner" is worshiped by the Shamed Ones. Since when? Does it correlate with Ganner's death?
It would make sense that he is accepted by the Shamed Ones since he already has a big scar which is clearly visible on his face. And who knows what he looked like when/if he crawled out from under the house. He might look like the Swamp thing which would make his acceptance among the Shamed Ones even more plausible.

You can see, I'm deeply in denial here, especially since there is no hard evidence of his death and I had somehow always pictured him to become Valin Horn's master. :)

The Ganner - the Jedi Giant which guards the gate to the lands of the Dead, prevents any dead ghosts from returning from the grave with his flashy lightsaber. He was worshipped since his death in Traitor which was witnessed by many, and so the legend spread.

Worship of the Ganner correlates with the fact that when he died he took out many (probably over 1000+) YV warriors with him and he showed traits worthy of admiration by the YV.

But what about the lightball? That was ambiguous. WE don't know what happened to him, what the Force did by his heavy usage of it.

Was there an actual physical projection of light? Or was this a metaphor for his force energy presence expanding so intensely. I can't remember.

I have to say Jon_Snow that it's sad how people are harvesting hope that everytime a character that they like dies, he has a huge chance of coming back.

Ganner for example has no reason to return. He was not a paticulary important character (except in Traitor) and isn't likely to be a character that an author would chose to base a large seperate story line in a novel on.

If authors start raising characters from the dead, where is it going to stop? Will we get to the point where Star Wars will turn into the Itchy and Scratchy show? That's not a place i'd like it to go.

He may not have been a horribly important character, but I think his evolution as a Jedi was a interesting journey to read. He started out with a problem a lot of the younger Jedi had, and evolved into a Jedi that knew his role and did it to the best of his ability. He's always been one of my fav characters, way before Traitor was written, and his last few scenes are some of my fav in NJO so far.

Comming back to the point of people wishing their fav characters back... *shrugs* They've done it before.

[edit: I think they could very well insert a novel about him into the mix, his journey to find Jacen for starters. If anything it could paint a different picture about the state of the GFFA during the invasion and occupation of worlds. Everything we see is from a military standpoint, and certian centers of action, with all the old heros. This could just show his journey, the common people he meets, the resistence movements working without help from anyone else... I think it could be a great novel with the right story.]

I'm happy with Rhysode's going out in a blaze of glory, simply because because Stover penned it well. The symbolism of Anakin's saber, not to mention we suddenly got this contrite and humbler Rhysode.

How many other free-willed and arrogant Jedi have seen the light and changed themselves?

Sure would be good if we knew more about him. From Teyr and i think he had dark hair and blue eyes, but what about age? Did he train with Horn?
