What if Ani looked like Leia and Padme looked like Luke?

Bear with me here.
We know that Lucas made a point of casting actors for Anakin who looked sort of like Luke. "Nazi poster boy, blond hair, blue eyes," as Chasing Amy would say. Look carefully at Hayden Christensen and you will see how Luke-like he is. (It helps if you cover up the haircut.)
And of course Padme is meant to look a little like Leia -- brown hair, brown eyes.

But what if it had been the other way around? What if Lucas wanted Anakin to be the brown-haired, brown-eyed one? (And vice versa.)

Who would you cast for Anakin and Padme in that case? Who would Lucas have ended up picking?

(I guess this sort of deals with both TPM and AOTC, but I put it here because it's more for talking about who to replace Hayden rather than Jake... simply because I don't think we know a lot of child actors that well.)

Hmmm. My choice would be Paul Rudd for Anakin then. Yes he's got blue eyes, but then Padmé could be blonde and brown eyed.

Or Orlando Bloom and Renée Zellweger?

I'm not just thinking of looks, but actual acting talent as well.

 

Well, naturally, we gotta have acting talent as well. Gotta take in talent, age, this, that.

At the risk of being flamed to death... I think if this had been the case, Leonardo diCaprio might not have made such a bad Anakin. He looks more like Leia than Luke in some ways... dark hair, smooth, clear features.

I actually think Leia does look like Anakin, not in coloring, but in certain features. The shape of Luke's features closely matches Padme,s.

 

If this were the case, I don't think we would have half as many Portman/Padme' fans.

Mira Sorvino would definitely work as a mix between Luke´s colors and Leia´s facial features.

But which male actor has the colors of Leia and facial features of Luke?

 

I think there is a resemblance between Leia and Anakin already, coloring aside.

Hayden could have, of course, dyed his hair brown and wore brown contacts. So technically hair color/eye color isn't an issue in picking an actor, because it can be changed; hair especially.

 

What about Jake Gyllenhaal? He is tall enough and looks a lot Leia. Actually dark-haired Padmé could have been Jake's sister Maggie how is exatly like Leia - just needs brown contact lenses.

I see that as well; Luke has dad's colouring and leia has moms, but I see very Anakin-ish features in Leia and very Padme-ish features in Luke.

 

Jake Gyllenhaal's a magnificent actor, one of my favourites, and I think he could have worked. He kind of has Luke's build but Leia's colouring.

I don't have any suggestions for actors, but I will say I made a comment long ago, during the time of TPM, that switching appearances would have helped the PT.

Nothing about Anakin/Vader in ROTJ shows that he had to have blonde hair since he's already bald and his ghost has gray hair. We knew nothing about Luke and Leia's mother.

It also would make sense that Anakin wouldn't pay any attention to Leia because she would look like him, and Luke would remind him of Padme, which could add more emotional punch to the OT post the TESB duel, Luke would look like a mother he never knew!

I think it would have been cool.

 

Originally, I think they wanted to cast the kid from Braveheart as Anakin in TPM. In the art book, there is a pic of that kid as Anakin. But he was too old by the time TPM was going to be filmed. That kid had brown hair and blue eyes.

I think I've seen that pic.

But just 'cause they draw that kid doesn't mean they were actually thinking of casting him. Movie concept artists and the like will draw celebrities into their designs 'cause celebrities have lots of images sitting around.

That's one reason why there was concept art of DiCaprio as Anakin floating around Skywalker Ranch.

Because he's cute, and the only girl he gets is his sister. His father got a love interest, why shouldn't he? And who really acts that whiny when he's 18 years old?

I have gaydar, and Mara Jade doesn't exist in the films.
