Have you ever wondered what if Jabba had been reasonable in ROTJ and bargained and sold Solo to Luke what would have happened to the droids?

I mean, Luke gives them as a gift. Maybe you can say Luke makes him a high offer for the droids, but what if Jabba wants them for his own eccentric reasons?

LOL, can you see Luke & Co taking on Jabba and Boba for 3PO or R2?

I don't think Luke expected Jabba to bargain. Getting the droids in the palace was probably the main goal. Luke had the foresight to hide his lightsaber inside R2-D2.

Jabba's far too proud to bargain. It would ruin his reputation if he got bullyed by a puny Jedi.

Jabba would have kept the droids which means C-3PO would be at Endor which means the Ewoks would have never helped the rebels. So the without the Ewok help the rebels never get the shield down, Lando can never blow up the Death Star and the whole rebel fleet gets destroyed. The Empire rules the galaxy forever.

Jabba did what Luke expected - he kept both Solo and the "gift" of the droids. Jabba's a scumbag gangster and Luke knew he wouldn't bargain. R2 had the saber, Leia and Lando were both sent in as a second-tier support...and Jedi Hopeful Skywalker came in as the "big guns."

Yeah, if Luke had thought there was the slightest chance of Jabba excepting the gift I don't think he'd have offered the Droids.

No. Since it's a movie and not real life I knew it could only go one way.

...or if Leia managed to get Han out of there ("c'mon we gotta get you out of here.") after unfreezing him. Poor Chewie and the droids. ;)

Had Jabba bargained...he would have been a whole lot richer, and not dead.

well, we wouldn't have had the Sarlac/Sail Barge battle and I would be devistated
it's one of the best parts of the film, but then again there are way too many good parts in that movie to say that

Some people just miss the point, or try to be smartasses.

Anyway, I've often wondered the same thing. Along the same lines, when Leia (as Boussh) brought Chewie before Jabba and offered him for ransom, how did they not know that Jabba wouldn't execute him? That seems like a pretty big risk to put one of your friends in. The droids are a little different, as he can keep those and use for his own needs. Jabba could have just dropped Chewie to the rancor.

Chewie sure put a lot of faith into his friends.

"-Both are hard working, and will serve you well." Concluded the hologram of the self proclaimed Jedi.

Bib Fortuna inclinded his head to the Hutt. "Bargain, rather then fight?" Mused the major domo. "He's no Jedi."

Jabba chuckled. "This bargain will indeed serve me well." The crimelord boomed in his Huttesse baritones. "How better to curry favor with the Empire?"

Fortuna's jaw dropped only to be replaced with wide eyed glee as understanding came. "Bounty hunter."

Jabba's ponderous laugh echoed through the audience chamber. Flanking the ponderous ganster, his armored hitman inclinded his head in a respectful bow. "Fett's dealings with my former champion of the pods has revealed much." An adequate trade, Jabba thought.

Bib turned to descend the central dias. "Contact Imperial Governor-" He began; Only to be yanked back abruptly.

"Fool!" The Hutt snarled. "Our arrangements will be with the dark Lord only!"

Below the dias, the masses of scum and villiany we're trampled by the mass of the overzealous yes-man as he came careening into the trap grate.

The Bounty Hunter known as Boba Fett turned to address the Hutt. "Lord Vader's reward will be lavish." He declared.

Jabba took a measured drag of his water pipe, blowing a billowing cloud of narcotic vapor into the air. "You may deliver the boy to Lord Vader upon his capture."

Again the Bounty Hunter bowed in respect.

An opportunity for the Hutt to be sure. Since the Imperial fleet had been drawn away from blockade duty in the mid rim to deal with increasing Rebel tensions, the old slug wisely saw an opportunity to continue his quiet arrangement with the Sith Lord. An irony in itself, since Vader was willing to allow Captain Solo to be transported back to Jabba for personal vendettas, it seemed appropriate for the Hutt to return the favor by turning in this Jedi-Boy.

Jabba took another toke on the pipe, holding the smoke in his massive lungs. Pivoting his chins, the Hutt regared the encased body of Captain Solo and slowly released the smoke through his disproportionate nostrals. As always, the visions, the ironies, and the ever sought change of perceptions hit the Hutt. Han Solo, Captain of the Millenium Falcon; Jabba's prized smuggler constantly dodging Imperial boarding parties; Now reduced to this shell of a man in return for his double cross, would ironically serve as a means of securing additional liberties within the mid rim. Perhaps this little 'favor' would lower the heat in the colonies as well. More visions followed: Favors from the Dark Lord, a former child slave of Jabba's ex-girlfriend. Boba Fett, an orphan child, taken under the Hutt's wing, now his prized hitman and tracker. Captain Solo, another down on his luck child, his best smuggler turned bait. What power did the old slug have over impressionable youth anyway?

Another round of booming laughter passed through Jabba.

It must have been contagious; wether because the quasi-monkey sitting near the hutt had inhailed the fumes, or simply liked to mimic his master, the diminuitive creature known as Salicious B. Crumb let loose a cackle of his own.

Regarding the two messenger droids, Jabba gestured for his latest gifts to be taken away.

A sad warble from one, and a trademark; "We're doomed!" From another faded into the ajoining corridor beyond.

Taking a third drag on the water bong, Jabba reflected with regret that this Skywalker followed the Jedi faith:

Might have been interesting to see how the boy would have faired...
