In TPM, Darth Sidious sets up the blockade of Naboo just so Palpatine can have to opportunity to be elected Chancellor. This plan only works if Amidala makes it to Coruscant and calls for a ?vote of no confidence.? Sidious seems to be working against himself when he pressures the Neimoidians to find Amidala and make her sign the treaty. If she is captured and made to sign a treaty then the rest of plan fails. Why did Sidious want Amidala to sign the treaty? How would that have fit into his plan?

    What am I missing?

I'm sure he has multiple plans (so if one fails, he goes for another).

Perhaps he would have also used the signing of the treaty against the senate the same way as he used the blockade, and gotten the vote of no confidence. Or maybe he'd use the situation on naboo as the start for initiating a conflict. Hes a genius. I think things went the way he wanted them too, or better.
Its just like the assasination attempts on Amidala, sure they fail, but they indirectly cause her to be escorted off the planet which serves the purpose and nonetheless Palpatines plan goes as planned or better. Its mostly his masterminding, but its part fate...

If the treaty had been signed, Amidala would have been executed and Palpatine could have gone to the senate as the senator of a martyre planet whose queen had been killed.
And the treaty would have only served one purpose : to show how corrupt the Republic was, because powerfull trade leaders could just invade some place and bend the rules of legality to make it acceptable.
The treaty would have been a way to denonce the entire administration of the Republic.

Plan B was using the queen as a witness and not as a complete victim. It worked quite well too.

OK - the treaty is signed. There is now an official document showing that the Trade Federation has invaded Naboo. Palpatine stands up in the Senate, and furiously asks how (an already weakened) Valorum has allowed something like this to happen. He calls for the vote of no confidence in Valorum, gets it, and is elected chancellor because of the sympathy vote. Things almost went wrong for Palpatine in TPM, but he was cleverly was able to manipulate things for his own purposes, and still got what he wanted.

good point, he probably would have had her killed and used her death. So since he accomplished his goal without having to kill her, he just said "wipe them out." Clear the chessboard, palpatine wins, time for round two.
