ever wonder what would have happened if yoda set aside his concerns for anakin and trained him he could have taught him to resist the dark side he could have prohibited anakin from seeing palpatine. he never would have fallen to the dark side

HEE! I actually believe that Anakin would have gone psycho under Yoda's tutelage, and turned to the darkside in his early teens :D

Yeah, that would've got old pretty quickly wouldn't it. I'm not sure Yoda was the "man" for the job. His bumper sticker philosophising would've probably made Anakin even angrier than he was already. I've always thought (and some people will say I'm crazy) that Mace was the man to train Anakin. The reason I say that is that Mace is very direct with things and if Anakin started to get stroppy Mace wouldn't take any ****. I can just see it now ... "Do I look like a b****?" He was very powerful in an overt kind of way, and I think Anakin would've respected this and maybe listened to what he had to say. I know he didn't necessarily listen to him as it was, but maybe in a master-padawan relationship things would've been different.

Things would've been different under Yoda, but whether that would be good or not is subjective. Lucas does give thought to it, that Yoda might've done better with Anakin.

Eh, it's hard to say. It's possible that Yoda, with so much more experience than Obi-Wan, could have trained Anakin to be a little less impulsive and more Jedi-like. However, Anakin clearly needed a friend as much as he needed a Master, and Obi-Wan was good for him in that respect. He may have rebelled more without it.

Yeah, Obi-Wan was already learning the "Love" aspect of Jedi-Ness that Qui-Gon would remind the Jedi is important (At least in the novels). That part of Obi-Wan was the only thing that kept Anakin together for as long as he did. He turned the other way on some of Anakin's Padme activities and such. Anakin was rebellious and would have gone bonkers with someone like Mace or Yoda. After all, look at Yoda's best attempts to talk to Anakin in RoTS. They were absolutely worthless to the troubled lad. Imagine if it were Obi-Wan that he went to. Obi-Wan would have a pretty good inkling what was going on and talked to him as a friend, not a preacher.

Lets not forget that Yoda trained Dooku and he still turned to the darkside.

Yep, exactly, Yoda has a bad track record on that. Aayla Secura should have trained Anakin. I think he would have forgotten about Padme long before AOTC if she did. :D

Good point and Dooku trained QG who trained Obi who trained Anakin, in a way that whole jedi tree of trainking so to speak had some darkside in the wood pile.

Padme was doin a good jon training him through the end of AOTC but she must of kinda got lazy about keeping him in line with her feminine ways, then again her being knocked up kinda took away her girly power for a while too.

If Yoda trained Anakin it would not have been as important to the saga as Obi Wan...as it is we get to see the awesome relationship between the two and how heartbreaking it is at the end of ROTS...Yoda doesn't offer the same human characteristic as Obi Wan.

I'm a little doubtful. I believe Anakin would have resented the Jedi even more. He would have absolutely no one but Palpatine to talk to. Mace is not very openly compassionate, and that's not exactly the greatest thing for Anakin to learn.

As for Yoda? Anakin would have turned out different, but again, Yoda wouldn't have been as caring as Obi-Wan. Anakin would be turning to Padme or Palpatine for advice and guidance more often. But Yoda would have laid out the law quite respectively.

I think Anakin was meant to join the darkside and destroy the sith whatever. I think it was probably his destiny to do all those things and Yoda as his master probably wouldnt of changed that. After all, despite the fact Anakin turned to the dark side he still fulfilled his destiny. Maybe it was all part of his destiny.

But if Yoda did train him, would he of fought Anakin on Mustafar instead of Obi-Wan?? [face_thinking]

I dunno. I think he would still have turned and would Sith have benefited from this?

    "Yousa underestimate meesa power."

I've said it on other threads and i'll say it aain on this one: i think Anakin would have turned to the darkside regardless of who trained him; wether it was Obi Wan, Qui Gon, Yoda, etc etc

I believe that the reasons for Anakin turning to the darkside would still remian there, regardless of who trained him. I believe Palpatine would still have managed to get around Yoda's teachings to get to Anakin the same way he did around Obi's teachings.

I doubt it because Obi-wan has just been graduatated from "Padawan" status when he started training Anakin so it was easy for Palpatine to undermine Obi-wan's teachings but Yoda has 800 years of experience at training Jedi and seeing the way he trained the last Jedi... Luke Skywalker, there was no way that Palps can weasel his way through Yoda's wisdom to win Anakin's trust. Before anyone mentions Yoda's training of Count Dooku, let's get a couple of things straight:

Dooku is 70 years past his padawan status and on his way to a retirement home when he turned to the Dark Side. He wasn't a newly-promoted Jedi Knight with a seperation anxiety and a pregnant wife like Anakin is.

The whole, "was Anakin destined to turn" question is a whole other topic, but I think George is making a point here about choices. Anakin chose to turn to the dark side. If he was always meant to do so, it takes power away from that choice. Yoda and Obi-Wan both have different strengths in dealing with Padawans, and Anakin in particular. Where Yoda has more experience and wisdom, he lacks the compassionate friend element that Obi-Wan posesses. Palpatine would have had to take a different approach with Anakin had he been trained by Yoda. But so devious and brilliant were his plans, and the way he played Anakin, I think he would have been able to adapt successfully.

Well technically Luke was trained by both Yoda and Obi Wan ;).

I agree with u RebelScum, and i guess that's what i was trying to say with my earlier post [face_laugh]: Palpatine would have adapted to the circumstances of whomever trained Anakin to find a way thru to get to him. Palpatine is a fantastic evil planner, i think he truly had a huge advantage over the jedi all along. He managed to fool everyone at some point so, that just shows how good he really was at it.

Don't forget Luke was trained *after* Order 66. Yoda and Obi-Wan's teaching styles had changed, and they had most definitely learned from the purge.

Yes, there's certainly a good argument against Mace, but in light of a lot of the criticisms which have been put forward for Obiwan, I think in some ways he would've been good.
For instance, it's often said that Obiwan was too lenient. Well Mace wouldn't have been. He would've been completely hard line. Also, some say that Obiwan was too inexperienced and was more of a friend and brother than a mentor and master. Mace isn't very friendly.
Sometimes young, headstrong, egotistical men only understand one thing. They will respect someone only if they can demonstrate that they're stronger than they are. Mace would've done this demonstrably, rather than taking the more nurturing approach of Obiwan.
Finally, I think that Mace's Vapaad form might have worked well for Anakin. Never mind all this fear leads to the dark side stuff. For Mace, it was all about acknowledging the dark within, but instead of fearing it, control and use it rather than have it take control and use you.

Yah, the Form is a good point. But I believe Anakin needed someone between Obi-Wan and Mace, and I think I spoke too soon, but Yoda is that person. Yoda is very openly compassonate, but he's all for taking action as well. He's strict but he's not like Mace, who seems to have forgotten that there is a little something called fun. Mace's constant lecturing would have just made Anakin into even more of an emotional mess. He would have turned to Padme for every bit of sympathy and I doubt Mace would compliment him very much, if not at all, and that's where Palpatine's praise really kicks in. I believe Mace would have come down hard on Anakin, and that would have just made him hate his "career" all together. I doubt Anakin would be very happy at all.
