There are two types of Gundarks: the Long-eared Gundark (the origional) and the Long-necked Gundark. Both species are entirely unrelated. The origional Gundark, the Long-eared Gundark, is a large simian with 6 limbs- two primary grasping arms, two secondary grasping arms, and legs. They have two extremely large ears. They are known to be harsh-tempered and are very strong. The second kind of Gundark, the Long-necked Gundark, is an endoskeletal anthropod. They have six legs on their splayed bodies, and are hexapedal, using all legs for running. They have long necks ending in elliptical, eyeless heads with two large ears. The Long-necked Gundarks were first discovered by a xenozoologist who named the creatures he discovered after living animals, with the intention on changing the names when he got back to his ship. He named the creatures he found 'Gundarks' because, like the Long-eared Gundark, they were voracious and nasty carnivores. Unforunately, the xenozoologist was killed before he could change the name, and the name he gave in his notes stuck- Gundark.

Whatever it is, ripping the ears off one is apparently an acceptable show of strength.

OK Emos, since no one else will do it, I'll set you up to get banned. :D

    What's a "dikfor?"

Anyway, back on topic. I thought I read in one of the books (yeah yeah, I know, EU sucks 8-} ) that gundarks were a native predator on Kashyyyk (sp).

That's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

All I know is that Gundark's have nests, and apparently some jedi can fall into them, and some padawans can rescue their jedi masters from these nests. Sometimes they nick-name these situations "nightmares."

Cometgreen, wondering why people care what a gundark is

    Cometgreen,

In the movie Attack of the Clones, when Obi-wan and Anakin were in the elevator, Obi-wan said about Gundark and it stuck in my mind. Thank you guys for answering my question. :)

So, these things live in nests then? Do they hatch from eggs then?

I've always imagined them to be more like Womprats, but the AotC quote sort of gave it a new light for me when i saw it.

    That's the long-necked (not origional long-eared) Gundark.

A picture of the true Long-eared Gundark can be found on page 165 of The Wildlife of Star Wars, if you have it or want to head out to your local bookstore to check it out.
