Well, I haven't been in Houston for very long, but here's the reason I picked Enron Field/Minute Maid Park.

Mosquitos, Heat, Humidity: I had enough of that when I lived in Florida.

Roadwork: I've seen worse road work in Salt Lake City and Denver.

Traffic Jams: Believe it or not, Seattle has worse traffic than the Katy Freeway.

Smog: I don't care what EPA or whoever says, I've seen worse smog elsewhere. Particularly in Vegas and Salt Lake City.

So rather than select "other" I picked the parks.

EDIT: I should have picked "Being a football fan"

I agree, Amanda. I chose "Other." There is so much that defines this fine Texas city we live in. Sports is one of them. Our two retractable roof stadiums, a brand new basketball arena, plus everything else.

There's nothing like Football in Texas.

defining characteristic... hmmm, how about having a toy train running downtown, and doing nothing to reduce traffic?

but seriously, i would choose "thinking they're better than everyone else, but not actually being better" as the characteristic i've noticed most about houstonians.

and btw, the retractable roof stadiums are a joke. what's the point of opening the roof when they continue to run the air conditioning inside. when i first heard that on the news, i laughed out loud...

I'm from Round Rock and grew up in Dallas, but my father was from Houston and we have a lot of family there.

I used to tease my roommate at UT, who was from Houston, about it. But it really is a neat city. And, rush hour excepted, most people in Texas would agree that the people in Houston are the friendliest in the state.

But the thought of August there without air conditioning is ... unbearable.
