    Hey all,
I just saw the trailer for Tyderium and I reckon it looks pretty cool. Does anybody know which program the Tyderium team are using to do their 3d modelling and rendering?

Also, there's one shot in the trailer in which the camera flies through space in a straight line, passes a couple of ships here and there and in the distance we see the shuttle Tyderium approaching. The camera then proceeds to zoom straight in on the shuttle, in through a window and stops with that old rebel dude's eye taking up the whole frame? How the heck did they do that so seamlessly? It looked fricken awesome!

I've seen shots like this before like in Fellowship of the Ring, when Gandalf is imprisoned on the pinnacle of Orthanc in Isengard. After Gandalf has spoken to the moth the camera moves over the egde of Orthanc and 'falls' down its side into the caverns below where the orcs are preparing for battle. I know the middle part of the 'falling' is cgi but how do they cut these live action and cgi shots together seamlessly?
    Any info would be great!
    Thanks

    Shoveler

To answer your question about the closeup on the guys eye. They do a quick disolve when the camera hits the window of the shuttle to the live action pull in. Since the shuttle window is black they can get away with it. The textbook shot for quick disolving two shots into one is the famous crane move in 'Citizen Cane' that goes up the building, through the sign, and disolves right as hit hits the window into another shot that goes from the window down to the subject 10 feet below.

Thomas Ganshorn (aka JarJar Thomas, which is one of the modelers and animaters) uses 3d studio (I think).

And the shot in the trailer where the camera zooms in to the ship and then in to the eye was pritty simple:
The camera zoommed in till all the screen was coverd with the window's black, then the image switched to all the crew inside and the camera zooms on to the parseons eye.

    hi there,
    we are working on 3d-max4.2.
the shot in which the camera flies through space and ends into the eye of the rebel-commander is a result of mixing a cg-flight with a real-shot ( the camera was moving to the maincharacter, tracked with the max4.2-tracker ), blend together on a compositing-tool called flame*. (kvaalen explained it right)
the shot from our trailer is still unfinished. it was a rough-version of it. the camera didn`t flew into a precise line. so we have to fix that to make it look better.

    cu

ps: we are happy to have a lot of effect-shots finished. but some of the unfinished scenes need a lot of time. thats why we still have to let you wait for the whole movie. ;o)

    Hey Tyderium2002,
I just want to say that Tyderium looks awesome! I only downloaded the trailer like a week ago but it's my most wanted to see fanfilm. I just get a really cool vibe from the trailer. Can't wait to see it! :D

By the way how did you guys get that storm trooper armor? Did you; make it, buy it, hire it? And how about the Imperial Officer uniforms?
    Thanks :D

As for your questions about the FX in Fellowship of the Ring, actually, none of Ortchanc was CGI, it was all done via miniatures, even the "falling" shot.

The basic idea of putting the shots together is the same as any of the others that you mentioned, it's just a matter of matchmoving, compositing, and transitioning between shots. It usually takes a great deal of time and patience to tweak it seamlessly, though.

"By the way how did you guys get that storm trooper armor? Did you; make it, buy it, hire it? And how about the Imperial Officer uniforms?"

If your looking for Stormtroopers or any other "bad guys," talk to the folks over at the Fighting 501st Legion. If you need "good guys," then drop by The Rebel Legion.

Most people who have armour buy it. It's usually vacuum-formed ABS plastic. It's harder to find armour now since Lucasfilm has cracked down on those who have been making and selling armour kits.

many thanks for the compliment, shoveler! ;))

just as jeditoren said, we could get the help of the 501st legion in germany. to buy so many armors would have ruined us ;)

only the two uniforms for the imperial main-characters have had to be build....and paid ;)

uhm....and of course all the endor-trooper-uniforms are done by ourselfs, cause you rarely find those into the fan-comunity here.

@ptx - japp, we are using flame* ;)))
we have the luck to have such a computer at the firm we are working for. but it`s not that easy, cause there is all the time someone on it doing a real job. so we have to work for "tydirium" most of the time late at night. so, please don`t get the idea we would own this flame*....our boss tolerates our starwars-work there, but he don`t likes to see that we are doing it with so much fun. maybe he would like to see us working the same way on our main jobs ;)))

Another thing to do is to use a radial blur on the sides like they do in the "forgot my dew" commercial... film a wide shot, medium shot, and a close up, all without ANY change in the background.... I did this and put a still of the closeup at a REALLY small size in the wide shot, did the same thing with the medium shot, then radial blurred/faded and made the pictures bigger/smaller to make fluid motion from the very wide to very closeup.

    Follow that?

    hi there,
the film is still in postproduction. when we finished the last studio shots, we expected it to be complete 6 months later. but there is so much work to do for it, that we actually can not say if we can do it into this time. if there would be an ability to work all that stuff during the whole day, it wouldn`t be a problem. but there is a lot of work for our mainjobs. so we can not say if we can keep the pace.
we try to do our best to bring it to an end! ;)))

My hat has to go off for what the crew and talent of Tyderium are doing. Some of the best framed shots and angles I have seen. Truly a professional shoot. When I look at the picture the level appeals right up to something I would expect to come from ILM and Lucas. Not sure how well the whole story and plot goes but, I have to say I am very impressed with what you have created.

Where did you get the large space for your sound stage? you have some excellent facilities!
I am really interested in your live set pieces. That is some excellent work. Great detail and lighting.
I am trying to find space to build a live cockpit set for Revelations myself and having a very hard time.
I understand you guys shot 35mm?
How did you get the gear? You guys work for a studio, and they let you "borrow" the equipment. Some impressive setup and production shots.
Very interested to see your final work.
Best regards to you and crew.. A super job, and a high-end fan film, the likes I don't think anyone has seen before.

thanks for the compliments, panicstruckpro! ;o))

we haven`t shot on 35mm.....but we have had the plan to do it this way. we saw that it would be to expensive and decided to take a 24p-camera. after all the shots, there have been eight hours material. and thats just for the thirty minutes of the length of the film.

the rentals gave us the gear for free.....uhm.....not absolutely free....but we have made some deals with them. the company with the light- and soundequipment gets a website-design. the owner of the studio wanted us to paint a nice graffiti on a wall in his garden ;o)

we are working at a postproduction-firm. for the project "tydirium", we changed our jobs and started to work there. so we could learn a lot for the fanfilm.

i have watched your website and i have seen very impressive pictures and i like the age of the actors....that looks very real to me. i am realy locking forward to see the whole project finished!
    good luck with it!

Hey Tyderium, thanks for the kind words on Revelations, and I know what you mean by bardering for equipment and services. I think that is an excellent deal to have the rental company let you use the gear for a trade in services! You guys have an excellent setup and love the sound stage space you have. We are troubled in trying to find space ourselves. Need to build a live cock-pit set in the DC area, and just having such a hard time, short of shelling out big money. Your picture is excellent and can't wait to see the final film. I still have to say Tyderium is one of the best quailty fan films to have come along. You guys really raise the bar!
