    We've all heard them. Those instances where a piece of dialogue is delivered in a film, but for one reason or another, the end result is absolutely horrible. Sometimes bad writing is to blame, other times it's the actor we hold responsible. The threads discussing the most memorable lines got me to thinking about the lines from the Star Wars films that are delivered in such a manner that you remember them not for how meaningful they were, but for how poorly they sounded.

    So what is the worst line deliver in the Original Trilogy?

    My vote goes for the Rebel soldier who speaks up as Leia briefs the pilots before the Battle of Hoth in ESB. As she outlines the plan, he chimes in with this gem:

    "Two fighters against a Star Destroyer?"

    Now, that's not a bad line as written. Surely the men would feel hesitant trying to escape the Empire faced with those odds. But for some reason, the actor who delivers the line puts absolutely no emotion (or talent) into his brief performance. It's so bad, I cringe each time I hear it.

    What are some other lines that probably looked good on paper, but failed miserably on-screen?

    NOTE: I checked back 10 pages and did not see a thread discussing this. But if there is one, by all means up the old one and we'll get DLM to lock this one.

    I'll second that one. The moment I saw this thread's title, that's the line I thought of.

    I'll also nominate Leia's "Hold me!"

    Maybe that's why Han looks so surprised when she says it. Ford was thinking "Geez, Carrie, that's the best you can do?"

    "We're not GOING to attack" -Imp Officer, ROTJ.

    It sounds like the Imperial Officer is making a statement rather than asking a question. Makes it sound out of place.

    In ESB, I've always hated "Imperial troops have entered the base, Imperial troops..."
    It is utterly devoid of emotion, and the guy's voice is annoying. Also, while funny, I've never been fond of the Wedge-isms during the Battle of Hoth:
    "Hoo-ha! That got him!"
    "One more pass..."
    "Good shot Janson!"

    Most of Leias lines in ROTJ were delivered with no emotion or purpose - just ****e.

    Whilst Luke's whine is, of course, rightfully famous, it has to be "Two fighters against a Star Destroyer?".

    The combined work of a voiceover American Actor and an (assumed) British Extra, merged into the most wooden acting role since Pinocchio.

    Not even Carrie at her "highest" could compete with such awful greatness.

    "Good luck." - Lando to Han in ROTJ. It's right when Han is about to board the imperial shuttle; worst acting in the saga.

    What about "he will come to you and then you will bring him before me" it sounds like he's told Vader that about 5 times and he's just about had enough.

    Most definitely, it's "Two fighters against a star destroyer?" but there are several that earn special mention:

    Han: "I know." in ESB right before carbon freeze

    Leia: "Hold me." in ROTJ, as many others pointed out

    Han: "I have your word, not a scratch." in ROTJ. Not to knock Harrison, but his delivery here was terribly weak

    I've come to look at that delivery as being a little intentional on Ford's part; trying to sound really nervous about letting Lando take the Falcon.

    How about the classic "You Rebel scum." from ROTJ? I don't know if it's the actor's voice or if he was dubbed. But whoever says the line, they try to sound really disgusted and angry. Too bad for them it ends up sounding really dumb.

    Yeah, count me among the "Hold Me" votes.

    Also, the little exchange in the Death Star -

    Han: "What took you?"
    Leia: "We ran into some old friends."

    Ugh. That is horrible.

    the worst line delivery? ugh.. it has to be that one.. "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" .. now THAT was devoid of emotion.. i mean.. it was worse than bad acting.. there was no acting!! 8-}

    ok but in all honesty, there arent really any lines that stick out at me as having been delivered badly.. even the "two fighters against a star destroyer?" doesnt bug me.. in fact i've always liked that line.. the guy comes off as bein this kinda dopey and not-so-bright novice, which i suppose makes you fear for the rebellion even more lol

    Blasphemers! All of you! (;

    As for me, I think the old trilogy is lightyears beyond the prequel trilogy in terms of overall line delivery. A wee lil hyperbole- the worst acting in the old trilogy is better than the best acting in the prequel trilogy. <end of off-topic rant> (;

    But, if you must know, my least favorite line delivery in the old trilogy is the Imperial Officer in ESB who says "Captain Needa, the ship no longer appears on any of our scopes." And then he caps it off with "Well there's no trace of them sir." HOWEVER, I like the cheesiness of that guy and at least he put a lot of effort into it, making it enjoyably goofy, which is more than I can say for the bad line deliverers in the prequels <must...not... rant...about...prequels...wrong...forum> (;
