the most common lightsaber colors are blue and green, and in the star wars databank it says that Ilum unlike other planets only produce blue and green crystals, so what planet produces Mace Windu's purple crystal and Plo Koon's yellow crystal, or did Mace Windu combined Blue with Red and Plo Koon Green with Blue?

That has been ignored actually, according to I, Jedi you can use practically any crystal to get a color. A Corusca gem will produce an orange beam, I believe, while a diamon produces a blue/white/silver color.

Ok, but why do all the Jedi using the Ilum crystals? Or could only the highest masters handle the other crystals? such as Mace Windu and Plo Koon

Probably because it was a really good source of crystals? As in, there were a lot of crystals and no point in looking for another source when the one they had was plentiful.

the planet that produced all the exotic crystals like silver yellow purple and those types was rusan(sp?) i thought. the planet that the sith thought bomb destroyed in the new sith wars right before darth bane made up the rule of two

Mace Windu's purple crystal came from Hurikane.

There's also a source from the caves on Dantooine.

A Corusca gem will produce an orange beam, I believe

Jacen Solo's lightsaber had a Corusca gem, and its blade was emerald green. Of course, their are different types of Corusca gems.

in the new essential guide to weapons, it says that a bunch of different crystals used to be redilly availiable, but sith and later imperial forces stole a bunch of lightsaber crystals, and since the blue/green illliums were most common, there were enough left over to provide jedi with a fairly good supply of blue/green sabres. the sith use artificial crystals, which make red blades.

ah, but in Shadows of the Empire, Luke creates an artificial crystal in a furnace (using instructions of Obi-Wan's) to create his new green lightsaber.

well, you could get a multicolour of natural crystals that were focused enough from the primary crystal mines on Ruusan. A thousand years before Episode One, Ruusan was cut off by the last battle of the Sith War, and Ilum, with mainly blue and green crystals, was the new primary saber source.

Other colours could be found, just not necessarily with the right focusing length. Random crystals dotted the galaxy as well, thus Adi's red sabers, and Koon's yellow one for some time.

Modern methods mean that they can synthesize crystals now that work in sabers, and with the Katarns rediscovery of Ruusan, you can get numerous colours again!

    Hope that helps
