What Were Vader's Thoughts As He Crossed His Arms And Gazed At The Skeletal Death Star?

Sorry for yet another post, but I just saw ROTS again a few more times and am again caught up in it all! If there has been another thread on this moment already, I'm very sorry and did not find it. I'm inviting BOTH serious and humorous responses here! As for the serious side, I think John William's emotional music here - mixing both a rather mournful and solemn version of "The Force" theme mixed with Vader's theme suggests that Vader was both mourning Padme and "child", and reflecting on the emptiness that his future now had in store for him as he gazed out at the Death Star under construction. It also seems this is taking place the day of Padme's funeral...something I'm sure he knew, but would dare not attend because it would be too painful, and, really...potentially believing he was responsible for her death, how could he possibly face her family? Vader would, of course, go on to further build and cement a reputation of having no feelings or remorse. But, at this beginning point, I do think he would feel shame - perhaps not of any of his other actions - but over Padme's death, yes. Anyway, that's what I think is going through his mind at that moment. I hardly think he was really focusing on the Death Star just then!

 

It was after Padme's funeral.

In the book, it said "sometime thereafter". I think that would be a few months.

Palpatine: I have some good news, Lord Vader.
Vader: You have built the ultamate weapon?
Palpatine: No, I just saved a bunch of money by switching to Geico.

 

I imagine his natural reaction would be something of a "Ok, this is all I have left, the Empire. I might as well feel things out and make the best I can of it."

 

Vader - *inner monologue* "I wonder what my master would do if I touched his face. It looks so soft..."

 

I'm going to say that there probably wasn't much thought involved. I can imagine him having emotionally shut down completely... he's going on auto pilot. Vader's a shell of Anakin. All he has now is Palpatine and his own anger and self loathing. He's still alive and everyone else is dead, so he'll take out his pain on anything he can.

 

Vader (thinking to self): This will be a day long remembered. It has seen the end of Kenobi...oh, wait, he still lives.

Palpatine: I can sense your thoughts, Lord Vader. Kenobi. Lives he still? What does your hatred tell you?

Vader: I think so. Yes, I guess.

Palpatine: Then you will see each other again, and when you do, it must be there. (The Emperor points to the Death Star)

Vader: We will meet there?

Palpatine: You will be the death of him. I have foreseen it.

Vader (thinking to self again): Funny, I always thought drink and death sticks would be the death of him.

Palpatine: Stop thinking! If you were meant to think, there would be no Sith here.

 

so that is the place where I will die.

"Hmmm, I sure could use a cheeseburger and fries right about now..."

on a serious note, I think he was sort of thinking, "What has my life become? I am a slave again. A slave to this evil thing next to me and I can never escape him by my own means."

 

On that note what was he doing crossing his arms. To me it didnt seem like somethign the CT Vader would do. I would have prefered hands on the hips or something that seemed more in character

 

That's what I thought when I saw the movie.

 

LOVED THIS RESPONSE!! How much do you suppose a monthly premium would be for something like a Death Star? Would it count as homeowners, or is it technically an auto? I mean, lots of troops and officers will be living there, but, then again it can traverse the galaxy...Is the Death Star really just the universe's biggest RV?
