I came to wondering just then with Count Dooku; in ROTS he is defeated and disarmed by Anakin and he doesn't even utter a single word other than express shock and horror at the fact how Palpatine would openly and yet subtly discard and betray him to his death; where Palpatine simply remarked coldly to 'DO IT!' to Anakin; in the ROTS novel Count Dooku manages to (although fruitlessly) plead with Palpatine going 'Chancellor! We had a deal! You promised me sanctity!' and yet realized he was in a loop that was inescapable and realizing his time was but done and rather have his way of being the leader of the 'New Order of Man' with Palpatine - he realized then that he had forgotten that Sith betray one another and also the fact he was to meet an ignominious end - considering for one who was a Jedi Master, Sith Lord, Head of the Separatists and wealthy heir/aristocrat to Serrenno's estate ...

But - what if Count Dooku - just before he got killed supposedly claimed suddenly 'it is he (Palpatine) young Skywalker! It is he who betrayed and shall betray us all in the end young Skywalker! It is he who is the Sith your Jedi bretheren are hunting for! He who is two but one! He who is Sidious of the Insidious! He has it all planned from the first day! He is the True Sith! Beware young Skywalker! Beware! Treachery is way of the Sith!' - what if Count Dooku uttered this or claimed Palpatine was Darth Sidious at the time of the duel on The Invisible Hand? Could things have been different? And surely isn't it odd how Master Yoda or others wouldn't have sensed a greater disturbance in the Force the moment Count Dooku died? I mean he did have a history once with Master Yoda eh? Plus the fact Count Dooku did want a new governance to run by his standards as he thought the Republic was corrupt ... and how Count Dooku - he did try to get Obi-Wan Kenobi to work for him and 'destroy the Sith' in AOTC ... and Count Dooku remarking and made references to Sifo Dyas's ideals for the Galaxy ... and surely then if Count Dooku uttered this or 'betrayed' Palpatine - would Anakin have had a different path then? I mean sure, he could have still killed Count Dooku and such - but would things have been much much different then? I mean could Count Dooku have then tried to help Anakin? Could Count Dooku have redeemed himself this way? Could Count Dooku have even returned as a Force-Ghost to help?

We do not generally allow wholly speculative "what-if" threads of this nature. Sorry.

The worst case scenario is they believe him.

    And Palaptine kills them both.

    :-(

Though, honestly, Anakin IS capable of killing Palpatine at this stage in my opinion so it could end with him powering through.

Hello again! Well - surely they would have in a sense eh? I mean SURELY by then Anakin and well Obi-Wan Kenobi for the matter would have had earlier warning and the fate of the Galaxy might have been changed for the better ... or for the worst - given Palpatine could have still manipulated Anakin but probably it wasn't still the right moment to instigate Order 66 - as it took really the cold-blooded murder of Count Dooku, the revelation of Padme with child with Luke and Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi on the two week mission to Utapau to hunt down General Grievous, Anakin's conflicts inside of him and his 'resentment' of the Jedi Council, the dying of Padme in his mind and finally the indirect killing of Mace Windu to really eventually make him Darth Vader ... given Palpatine knew Anakin was still struggling on what was 'right and wrong'...but suppose if Count Dooku let slip earlier that Palpatine and Darth Sidious were both the same for all intents and purposes of playing all sides stupid ... could things have been different then? And that the Jedi Council would have had warning then sooner than later and perhaps Order/Protocol 66 ... and surely if Palpatine chose to kill them both - wouldn't that practically ruin Palpatine's plans somewhat? Given Palpatine engineered the Clone Wars - part of it was to set tests for Anakin so that his powers would grow and he'd slowly become closer to the Dark Side of the Force ...

If Obi-Wan and Anakin die, Sidious can salvage the situation. Albeit, he's lost both of his apprentices and will have to lead the Assault on the Temple himself.

But no one will be able to tell Mace Windu that Sidious is Palaptine.

It's a tough call as Mace, unlike Yoda, can stalemate Palpatine.

He basically did that already in II and Obi stupidly dismissed it.

Because he was working with the Separatists. And, after the big duel - of course Obi-Wan wasn't going to trust Dooku's word.

Even then, he reported Dooku's claims to Yoda - and Yoda pointed out that, as a Sith Lord, Dooku can't be trusted anymore.

Which is probably exactly what Palpatine would have reminded Anakin: "Oh, not these lies again... Sith cannot be trusted, Anakin, kill him quickly!"

Obi-Wan was still knocked out at this point, I think, and, well, Anakin isn't the brightest cookie, so between trusting Dooku or buying Palpatine's sheev...
