Whatever happened to General Rieekan?

I don't buy much EU material, so all I read is what the official site tells me and what my small local library carries.

So, with that in mind, I decided the EU literature board could probablu answer my question. Whatever happened to General Rieekan of The Empire Strikes Back? Has he died in spinoff literature or comic, etc? I read Tyrant's Test and I think he was in that book. What happened thereafter with him?

A career military man since the age of 17, Rieekan entered into the world of politics when the New Republic took control of the galaxy. He served the New Republic as Minister of State. During the Black Fleet crisis, Rieekan was New Republic Intelligence director.

well 6554 beat me to the bit about BFC. Thats all I remember for certain, but I seem to recall that sometime before that he was Minister of State.

He was in Star by Star

 

Rieekan was brought out of retirement to serve as the commander of Coruscant's defense in Star by Star. Presumably he got offplanet before the Yuuzhan Vong captured the capital.

 

Oh yeah, thats right. He was in command during the battle for Coruscant.....

 

I always liked Rieekan-one of my fan fiction characters is his daughter. I made up a whole backstory for him, too, regarding his family.

 

I sure hope he got offworld.

Depends on who you ask. Plenty of commanders were "relieved of duty" by the government before the planet was captured. He was there, but I'm not so sure about "in command".

 

Carlist Rieekan oversaw the ground-based defence at the ending of SBS. Since no mention of the general has been seen since . . . perhaps he could have stayed onplanet and is helping to lead the remaining forces in gurellia warfare!

He also pops up in The Last Command, helping out with the defense of Coruscant (deja vu). In EC, I remember it saying something about Reeikan being Minister of State. And in Rogue Squadron 3D, General Reeikan is a major character.

Reeikan is pretty cool. One of my fave characters.

 

He was a former Minister of State during the early Jedi Academy formation and Planet of Twilight. Infected with the Death Seed, he made a recovery. It was hinted in the academy trilogy that the Republic had their top military personnel in high political offices, as a practical necessity when you're still at war.

During the Black Fleet, he was NR Intelliegence Director.

General Bel Iblis was the one who engaged the Vong coming into the system, against Admiral Sovv's orders, and then Fey'lya relieved Sovv of command, against the wishes of most of the senior NR military, Rieekan included. I'd say that places Bel Iblis in command there.

Can you give a qoute or page number where is says Rieekan was relieved of commmand, I dont remember it.......

 

I always though it was a dumb element of Jedi Search that they made him, as well as a couple other OT war hero's leader's just because the readers could recognize them.

He is a good character but he, as well as the other's belong in a command chair overseeing battle's.

Me neither. What I was saying was, he wasn't in charge of Coruscant's defense, that was on Admiral Sovv, until he was relieved and replaced by Garm Bel Iblis.

 

To clear up the confusion:

Sovv was overall Supreme Fleet Commander

Bel Iblis was leading a fleet

Rieekan oversaw Coruscant's ground forces and defences

Yeah, I was just going to say that. Like I said earlier, he was commanding the planetary defenses.

I recall him still giving orders when the vong were landing......
