General Maximillian Veers escaped the first Death Star in a shuttle and crashed on Yavin 4. He was rescued by the Empire during the Rebel's evacuation.

After the Battle of Hoth, where he was crippled after a snowspeeder crashed into his walker, he was relegated to minor posts. He was finally killed six years after the Battle of Endor, serving under Executor Sedriss and commanding an AT-AT against Governor Beltane's war droids on Balmorra.

Thanks. But wasn't the Veers on Balmorra a colonel? Surley they wouldn't have any reason to demote him.

    He was indeed demoted.

The New Essential Guide to Characters has all of the details you're looking for.

Quite a stupid death if you ask me, Sedriss was an idiot to order Shadow Hand, the Empire lost it's best people in those days, and all for nothing.

Why was he demoted ? Was it because his son had Rebel sympathies ? I'll have to check my copy of DE2, i don't remember his death

DaJames - I don't think it shows him die in DEII the comic. It just mentions his name.

But in the audio drama, he dies. He's attacking the war droids and then there's an explosion and static on the comm as Sedriss listens.

Um... chissdude10, Sedriss didn't order Operation Shadow Hand. And it wasn't a failure -- it was pretty successful. Have you read the Dark Empire Sourcebook?

Nop, I just guessed Sedriss, I really should of looked it up. But Shadow hand was very brutal, and many of the best Imperial commanders were killed. That I know.

In the Empire Strikes Back novelization, he and Hobbie both die when Hobbie crashes his snowspeeder into Veer?s walker. This is all part of my ?Undead Hobbie? theory.

I'm kind of curious as to what you think Operation Shadow Hand is, there, chissdude10. Where do you get the impression that a lot of top Imperial commanders were killed? We know that Grand Moff Ardus Kaine (ref. EC) and Captain Maximilian Veers (ref. NEGC) were killed during Operation Shadow Hand, but that's it -- who else are you thinking of?

Operation Shadow Hand was the implementation of the Emperor's fool-proof master plan, the Shadow Hand Strategy. It took all the Empire's resources (Army, Navy, Marines, COMPNOR, politicians, dark side adepts, civilians, economy, etc.) and detailed their roles in the operation. Everyone knew exactly what their part was, and did exactly their part -- no one but the Emperor knew the whole plan, but no one needed to know the whole plan, because every one did their job exactly, and it came together perfectly.

He designed the Shadow Hand Strategy to be, basically, an autopilot for the Empire. It was designed to continue working perfectly even if he died, so that the Empire wouldn't suffer another post-Endor debacle in the time before he resurrected himself (again!).

Operation Shadow Hand was already under way by the time Luke joined him on Byss -- in fact, the Emperor first conceived of the Shadow Hand Strategy while he was waiting for the Admiral "It's a Trap!" Ackbar to walk right into (surprise, surprise) the trap at Endor. Sedriss was only part of the whole thing; he didn't order it, and he wasn't in charge -- he didn't even know the whole plan.

What do we know about the Shadow Hand Strategy? Well, we know that in the time period between Isard's Revenge and the Dark Empire Sourcebook (a few days after Dark Empire), the Empire had expanded from one-quarter of the galaxy to include the Deep Core, the Core, the Inner Rim, the Mid-Rim, and Wild Space. By the time of Dark Empire II, the Empire had already taken control of the Colonies. By the time of Empire's End, the Empire was taking control of the Outer Rim.

We could calculate the a rought guesstimate of how long there is, there, based of Leia's pregnancy, but why bother? We already know from the EC that the Emperor Reborn's shenanigans all took place in "10 ABY," so we can tell that Operation Shadow Hand resulted in the conquest of pretty much three-quarters of the galaxy in under a year.

    Not bad, eh?
