Just heard some sad news about the location - This year I visited Lake Como, including the Villa Balbianello (Lake Retreat/Wedding scenes) and also the meadow that was used for the picnic scene.

Gigliola, the guide who took us to the Star Wars sites recently posted this:

    Dear Star Wars friends,
I recently got to know that the picnic meadow (Attack of the Clones) situated at Rogaro in Tremezzo, Lake Como, has been sold and there is an edification project all ready: someone says houses in row, some other says bungalow for a residence and camping. That in the heart of a wonderful farming area, rich in history and tradition. I beseech you all to write a kind letter to Tremezzo's major and express your worries. Should someone get in touch with Lucasfilm, let them know that. Thanks a lot.

If you ever had entertained hopes of visiting the sites of the Lake Retreat, I hope you'll take the time to save it.....may be a lost cause at this point but try, we must.

We had been considering visiting there on our honeymoon.

    This makes me sad.

letters from potential tourists are just what's needed.

and I can honestly say I have never seen a more beautiful place than Lake Como at sunrise...it is just incredible. and the meadow is defintely part of the magic, especially if you're able to contact Gigliola - she was on the set when George and company filmed at the Villa and also for the picnic scene. I have her email address if you would like to contact her....she has an amazing amount of detailed information about the filming and is a true Star Wars fan herself.

It's a beautiful place for your honeymoon, but also for anyone who can appreciate a natural wonder. I still have hopes of returning, beause I went in early May - just want to see it at exactly the same season AotC was filmed.

So this meadow is right by the villa at Lake Como? I didn't know that.

Yes - the meadow is very close by - plus the scenes that were shot (and later cut) leaving Tatooine. Our guide drove us to the meadow - the Villa has to be approached from the water most days - she arranged that too. Fantastic time.

Gah, that's really terrible. But this thread should probably go in SWC. I'm going to move it there. :) Feel free to mention it in the social thread in PT too.

Building houses and bungalows on a place of SW?! I'll quote the Yuuzhan Vong: INFIDELS!

A friend told me about this a few days ago. I'm not really a fan of AOTC or anything, but I plan to visit all the places where they filmes SW and I want to see them in their full glory, unchanged. I visited Lago di Como once, it is just about 400 km from my place, but then I didn't know SW was filmed there. :p

    I'll write the letter.

This is a real shame, to build housing on such a wonderful location, I sincerely hope that the area is left untouched.
