In the Literature version of ANH, which is sitting right next to me, Obi Wan says, " even a duck needs to be taught how to swim." Luke replies, "whats a duck?" To which Obi says, " nevermind."

Where are these ducks? Does lucas have any kind of explanation for this?

The funniest star wars moment ever was in the ANH novelization, "oddly, luke was thinking about a dog he had once owned", wierd.

    EDIT: direct quote.

I believe that there are also goats, camels, cats, rats, elephants (maybe) and a whole sleugh of other earth animals in the GFFA.

    ANH Earth Animals
    dog on Tatooine
duck (mentioned, but obviously not found on, Tatooine)

    ESB Earth animals
    Various snakes and lizards (Dagobah)

    ROTJ Earth Animals
    Rat on Tatooine

    TPM Earth Animals
    duck (mentioned on Tatooine AGAIN)
    Doves on Naboo

    Caravan of Courage Earth Animals
    Horses (inc. ponies)
    Ferrets
    Rabbits
    Chickens
    Goats
    Owls
    Llamas

    Yes, that's right, Llamas.

It should be noted that the "ducks" seen on Naboo in TPM and in Wildlife of Star Wars ARE NOT members of any Earth species. Wildlife of Star Wars even indicates they have FOUR FEET.

Llamas are also seen on the Ba'ku planet in Star Trek: Insurrection. Apparently, llamas are just intergalactic beasts of burden created by the makers of Centerpoint or something;0

Those naboo ducks only have 2 feet. They have the coloration of female mallards.

The 4 footed birds are a completely different species altogether, have a different feather pattern, white with a horned bill, fish like eyes, blue rings around the neck, and fish like crest on the back of their neck.

Cats have been mentioned at least once. Such as Ken thinking that he could have had a cat or a dog, but all he has is a mooka.

The portuguese man of war, has been mentioned as well in Lando Calrissian books, IIRC.

    Ravens also exist.

"Ewoks: Battle for Endor, the evil witch Charal dons a magical ring that allows her to change shape into a raven."-starwars.com

It's strange that Ducks haven't evolved as much as all the other allens-animals.

You have pig, warus, squid, teddy bears, ant eater aliens but no Duck aliens.

Since ducks are still considered animals I guess they must be a prime source of meat.

Yeah the movie ducks do look different from the Wildlife ones. But they don't look like mallards to me. They seem to have long, pointed beaks, but then again, the pic quality ain't the best.

The quality of that pic from starwars.com isn't good?

Those sure look like mallards to me...

Oh, you mean those pics, Val I thought you meant the actual pic of the ducks from TPM. Yes, those ducks are definitely mallards, but I don't know if those are supposed to be the same as in TPM. I think the OWS article on ducks also had pics of domestic white ducks. I'm not sure how much weight to give much of that article, since it was a spoof celebrating Howard the Duck, and none of those other pics are from the movies. I meant that the actual ducks in TPM don't look like mallards to me. The wings look the wrong hape, too.

THe artist who made Wildlife of Star Wars made many anial designs for TPM, inc. the eopie and falumpaset, but stated in Insider that she didn't make the ducks or other birds in THeed. THe article made it sound like she didn't like those designs...maybe she didn't think they looked alien enough? I thought she intended the ducks in Wildlife to be the species seen in TOM, but added the extra feet and stuff to make them look more alien. That is just speculation, I can't prove that of course. I suppose there could be different animals on Naboo called Duck, since there are many earth animals that are very different but similar enough to share names (salamander refers to an amphibian in some places, but in some parts of the USa is used for gophers, which are rodents/mammals). Blackfish are actually whales, not fish. Etc. On the other hand, different artists drraw velkers and beldons VERY differently from source to source, but they aren't intended as separate species.

03: Discussing wildlife is as valid as discussing ships, vehicles, or characters. Diffwrent things interest different people. People nitpick fleet sizes and stuff (power to them), so what is wrong with discussing ducks or other animals?

We've discussed ducks on the forum before and even had a thread opened about it when ducks appeared in the OS's databank.

Hmm,the way I see it is that many in the galaxy were very familiar with animals like ducks which were native to Naboo. But since Luke was raised on a farm on Tatooine all his life and rarely ever went to the space stations because he was forbade to do so,how could he really know what a duck was?

Until leaving Tatooine with Han, Chewie, Obi-Wan, and the droids it seems that Luke never went to a space station. Spaceports on the other hand are a horse of a different color.

Didn't a duck-headed guy with a human-like body walk down the stairs past Obi-1 & Mace in the Jedi Temple in Aotc? Stupidest looking SW character ever!

Well if the GFFA can have peoples like us, why can't they have our ducks. Ducks are a noble animal. And some are truely beautiful to see in flight, or on your diner table.
