What's a Nubian?

I just watched Chasing Amy, and that famous line came up. But what is a Nubian? I don't know!

Nubia used to be what the Romans called the area south of Egypt where black Africa starts (basically, Sudan, Chad, Ethiopia). Also known as the land of Kush in Ancient Egyptian times.

The term has come to define something which is pure black African. Hence Darth Vader, Nubian god!

 

Ahh. I thought it had something to do with Star Wars. Actually, Idseem to remember Qui-Gon Jinn asking Watto for spare parts for a J-Type Nubian.

There's also a planet called "Nubia" in Star Wars.

 

thats because George lucas decided that the adjective for something from Naboo would be Nubian.

But TPM came out 3 years after Chasing Amy, so its unrelated.

 

That is one of the greatest lines in any Kevin Smith movie. Hell, the whole Star Wars dialogue in there is great.
