We all know what Mark Hamill is like as Luke Skywalker, but does anyone know what kind of guy he really is? Seems like a family guy...three kids...married for a long time...and keeps ultra busy with many different projects. Is he as wholesome as Luke? Or does he live a life with a much darker side?
He seems rather quirky...is he a geek, or a real hero in person like Luke?

I heard that at one convention in the 1980's that he got drunk before going on stage. He felt bad about it because it was the fans that were there to see him.

I heard that he is a really nice guy and he is proud of his contribution as Luke Skywalker.

I think he did a great job and he is a good speaker.

He continues to do great work and voice-overs and copy work. My favorite is his narration of "the Chunnel" and his work as the Joker in the Batman cartoons.

He deserves all of his success.

JediKnight, are you serious?! Where did you hear that? I've never heard of that before...my mind cannot fathom it!!

DeJade_Vu, I would not lie to you. These things happen I am just glad that he realized it and did not make a habit of it.

I have heard that he is a nice guy. My JCC friend Latorski saw him do a show on Broadway in New York. He said that it was good to see him. Too bad the show didn't last two weeks.

    What is "The Chunnel?"

I can forgive the guy if he got drunk
at a convention. If I had to go to
those with any degree of regularity
I'd probably succumb to the bottle
    myself, :p

He really is underrated as an actor-I've seen him do various parts and he makes a GREAT villain!

Plus every interview I've ever read, he comes off really funny and humble.

He was absolutely hilarious as the gangster father on a MAD TV segment! [face_laugh]

"the Chunnel" is the tunnel between England and France. It is the main way of travel via rail from England to Europe. It is one of the longest tunnels in the world 28 miles long.

He did an excellent job. Watch the Discovery Channel and you can see it from time to time.

I met Mark Hamill twice in the 1990's, and found him to be a very nice, down to earth person who is not only happy with his contribution to Star Wars and film in general, but is devoid of arrogance. I wish him all the best.

Hamill's also a huge comic book fan, a self-confessed geek about all things superhero. He keeps his family life pretty quiet and private.

I believe he had some problems during the time of the OT (mainly between ANH and ESB), due to the sudden massive push into superstardom thanks to the films. I know he had to kick a drink-and-party-all-night habit, but managed to do so in the end, got married, and settled down.

All reports suggest he's a real friendly, down-to-earth guy that puts his family first and basically likes to spend his time going whatever he enjoys. Thanks to the financial succes from SW, there's no pressure on him to try to be in the public spotlight or constantly seek out big roles and big paychecks. He's sometimes been frustrated at the way that Luke Skywalker has shackled his career, but he feels it's more to do with the way other people perceive him and certainly bears no grudge towards SW or Lucas.

Personally, I think the fact he hasn't had to be part of the real Hollywood rat-race has helped him not turn into a jerk ;) I'd really like to meet the guy some day.

He's a big jerk. At least to me he was. He refused to sign my Luke figure & didn't even want to talk.

Edit: LOL, I just read this thread, & everyone else is saying that he's not a jerk. Well, maybe he was having a bad day.
