What do you think. It doesn't even have to be on this site, or even a Star Wars fic. Just voice your opinion.

Wel, as this IS a Star Wars site dedicated to said same fandom...

    I'll say Empire Strikes Back.

George was a fan of Flash Gordan and the style of the serials from that era...

There are some amazing authors out there... it's not even like asking to compare apples to oranges, but asking to comapare the entire food group. You are asking a question that really can't be answered, especially here.

    Yeah, that's way too tough.

There are too many great fanfic stories, plus there are some in different categories. There are several that I'll re-read, some when I want a happy story, some when I want a sad dramatic one, some when I want humor.

Wow! That's a loaded question if I ever heard one! The covered area is so broad, I don't know if anyone would ever feel comfortable with submitting one definitive answer.

Still, it's a legitimate question, if only from a subjective point of view. Let me think on it for a while, and I might be able to decide on MY personal favorite.

But you'll never get a consensus. There are just too many different areas, too many varied tastes, too many 'points of view'.

But what the heck? Since it's all in good fun - no hints of awards or formal selections, elections, or nominations, I'm willing to give it a shot, once I have time to consider.

Loaded question indeed. :p I've been thinking about this, and I have to say that the best fanfiction story I've ever read is a Lord of the Rings story called A Birthday, a Cold, a Memory and a Gift by Zebra Wallpaper at FFN (I'd link to it, but I don't think we're allowed to link to FFN). Wonderful characterization, extremely well-written, fit perfectly with canon events, and it just left me with something, something that really added to the bigger LotR story for me.

Now keep in mind, this is the best fanfic in my opinion. It would be impossible to find one that everyone could agree on. But that's perfectly all right, because diversity is fun. :)

By the Grace of Lady Vader tops my list. The authors did a brilliant job in capturing the soul of Star Wars mixed perfectly with their own ideas and writing skill. It really made me a fan of Fan Fiction as it was one of the very first stories that I read here when I first signed up.

The best? I think that's too hard to say. With something like writing, it's subjective.

I'll throw two stories out there, though, because they are wonderful - and they touched me in a way I can't really explain. Quality of Mercy was truly beautiful. Allowances changed the way I thought about Star Wars and the Jedi ever since. I think the best stories (not just fanfiction, but anything) change your view on the world, on yourself, on something. They're more than entertainment. They change you, they move you. Both of the ones I just listed are by Lady_Moonbeam. :)

[edit] Oops, posted with sock. :p This is obaona.

I could never put a finger on one but all I know is if you look deep enough there's some wicked stuff to read on the 'Net. Especially Star Wars because you've got great places like here at the JC and FFN to provide fan fiction. Then there's all the fan sites :)

Wow, and I can only choose one? That doesn't seem right. If I have to pick out one that stands above the others, it would be Interlude by Mira. At the time that I read it, I had quit reading the NJO in anger and decided I could care less about what happened in it. At the time, I could also care less about what Jaina was doing. But I sat down and marathoned Interlude one Saturday morning, and I became so hooked on both NJO and J/J. My next stop was the bookstore. Nuff said.

I'd say Resurgence of Chaos. :D

I'm not arrogant or anything, but let's face it, I like RoC because I wrote it, and the stuff in there is from my mind. Therefor, it's hard for me not to love it to death. I put everything I love about stories into it, therefor, its the perfect story for me. Even out of all the Star Wars Films, my fic holds a bigger place in my heart, mainly cause I put 3 years into it. And no fan fic, no matter how much better in all reality, will take that from my mind. I think we're all or most of us are the same, deep down. We love our stories more than others in that special way that only a writer can understand. Well, I know not all of us are that way, but I know that others feel the same.

Outside of that, It goes hands down to Lone Jedi, by Darth_Ofidus. Guy's a genius, and blows me outta the water in alotta ways. His characterization of Canon characters and OCs still astounds me, because it's so consistent, and yet realistically random. He also knows his technology and history, which helps.

Resurgence of Chaos is very good. Out of all the fics that I've read thus far (exculding my own because I agree with everything Cam just said) it's my favorite, and I really can't give you an explanation. There's just something about it. In my opinion it needs to be updated soon, if at all possible.

    Oh my god! *tackles ThatJediGirl*

'D'you think he's dangerous?" asked Ron, sounding hopeful.

Somewhat unwillingly, Harry thought of the sword, the Talisman of Purest Evil. And of the surge of cold that had come from Draco's hand when they had performed the Veritas curse on Krum.

"I don't think so," he said.

"Still," said Ron, reaching for the plate of toast, "there's a definite possibility that he's a vicious, cold-blooded -" Ginny squeaked. Ron glanced up and saw Draco standing in the doorway, wearing Mrs. Weasleys' fuzzy pink sweater and carrying a large green book. "Oh. Um...piece of toast?" said Ron lamely, offering the plate to Draco.

"I've been called a lot of things in my life," said Draco, looking at the plate. "But never a vicious, cold-blooded piece of toast."

I love Cassie so much. *sighs*

But anyway, my favorite fic is actually a Queer as Folk fic that I read a while ago. It was amazing, but unfortunately I can't post the link, as it is slash, obviously.

I also have a special place in my heart for Interlude. That was the first full-length fic I ever read, and it had a big part in inspiring me to start my own fic.

I have two that tie in my mind for my favorite. An Uncertain Path by Red Rose Knight and Gone To Ashes by Cynical 21 . Both are creative and brilliant and are what inspired me to first try my hand at writing. :)

'An Untimely Frost' by CYNICAL21, 'Remnants in the Mind' by Cascadia for full-length stories.

'Departure of Innocence' by Shiela for vignette.

    Truly wonderful works. :)

    I'm blushing here!!!

There are so many, that it seems blasphemous to name only one or two. But faint heart never won fair . . . oops, wrong quote. But you get my drift.

OK - short story - I think someone's going to be shocked, but I really loved 'A Glimmer in the Darkness." Close your mouth, Tim.

And I agree with Tim - Jae's Ep 2 is as good as it gets.

And that's only the tip of the iceberg - actually only the tip of ONE iceberg, the SW iceberg.

Fan fiction is a big wide gloriously wonderful world, in which we are all privileged to play.

Well 'the best fanfic ever' is kinda subjective, but one of my favourite fanfics ever is 'Runaway' by Valerie Vancollie and Rebecca Thompson. That was the first fic I read that made me realize just how good fanfic can be. It poses the question 'what if Luke ran away from Owen and Beru and joined the Imperial tie pilot academy?'

I'd like to suggest my gay fanfic, even though it's not finished yet. A preview of it is on the web, but due to the stupid policy, I can't link to it. If you want to read it, PM me and I'll be more than happy to send the link to you. It'll be finished soon, then it'll just be a case of where to host it.

Angel_of_Sith, I?m sorry but I will have to ask you to edit out that link to your homosexual fan fic. Talking about your fan fic is one thing, but posting on this board a link to the story is another. If you edit the link and offer to give the story out to anyone if they contact you off-site, that?s completely fine. You cannot, however, go through JC due to our policies.

    Thank you for your cooperation.
