I was just in the Star Wars Pet peeves thread when this idea dawned on me! :)

I've been asked almost every question about Star Wars from my family, friends and co-workers since to them I am the "Star Wars Guy". Many of them were pretty normal, but occasionally I get those gems that just knaw at your brain and make you wonder; "Just how does this person manage to function without the use of their brain?!"

So I thought this thread could be place for all us fans to share all those brain exploding questions we get every now and again! :D

I always get, "So is the Emperor; Palpatine?"
Yes!!! I guess you just couldn't see past that robe trick! Those masters of disguise at ILM really fooled you!

But that isn't the stupidest question! The real humdinger I've had to answer, more than once too, is: "So is Anakin; Luke's brother?" Oh, my God! "NO!!!!!!" How can you not realize we gone backwards in time! This is a Prequel Trilogy! Anakin is Luke's Father!!!! This is usually followed by, "I thought Darth Vader was his Father?" And this is when my head explodes! [face_laugh]

So what's the stupidest thing you've been asked? ?[face_plain]

Slightly more obscure one, perhaps, but here goes.... (trivia or minutiae maybe, the details 'n' such, but for me it really *does* count too!) In the context of one of my SW roleplay posts this weekend, I happened to use a descriptive analogy involving massiffs....which, as I'm sure everyone here knows, either from the sw.com databank section, or any other number of AOTC-related books 'n' such, are the spiny-backed, long-fanged beasts found on both Tatooine and Geonosis, but which we see on Tatooine in particular in AOTC, battling over a bone in the Tusken camp. So, yeah, at any rate - I used this descriptive metaphor thingie in the course of my writing....and then had a friend write me not long after, presuming that I was making a *typo* or something, and that I actually meant to type "mastiffs". Can you believe it? He thought it was a bloody *typo*!! Aaaaargh! *distinctly annoyed*

Of course my first instinctive impulse was to really whale him with perhaps a rather more biting and heated, how-can-you-even-*think*-that-I-don't-know-what-I'm-doing! type retort....believe you me, I was sorely tempted....but I suppose that I did manage to restrain myself quite admirably at the time, at least attempting the diplomatic solutions approach....as opposed to the way of aggressive negotiations, which is rather more my style o' times, truth be told. :) Really, though, what got me so irate and seething over the whole thing was the fact that - it all ties into how, even to this *day*, I too have my friends coming up with the most absurd SW questions imaginable....talk about exasperated eye-rolling and sighing....I really have no patience for such inanities anymore. :)

Couple more "good" ones that admittedly did chafe at me something fierce, at the time....how, in the course of discussion, one of my friends said that Hayden played "Luke" Skywalker....how I managed to hold myself back *then*, I will never know. But believe you me, oh, what I was really thinking at that moment....*seriously* not lawful to be uttered! And of course, there's been any number of other stupid questions asked....on the one hand, I know that I should at least try to be patient with them, so's they'll actually learn something....but other times, it really is difficult to restrain the response that I'm inwardly dying to make. Especially when the baiting (inevitably?) starts too, as has already been mentioned above.... Grrr, argh....it can be the small things, maybe, that do strike to the heart and get one's proverbial knickers in a twist in a real hurry....but the big ones can have precisely the same result too. :)

"Vader is Luke's father? I thought Anakin was!"

Then I had to explain about them being the same person, and then...

"But they don't look alike at all!"

    AAARRRGGHHH!!!!

I hate it when some people think that the PT take place after the OT and they wonder why Obi-Wan is younger and Yoda is back and why Luke, Leia, and Han aren't in it. Idiots!

This isn't a question, but just as irritating and stupid! I had a co-worker tell me the reason she doesn't like the "new" Star Wars movies, the PT, is because they don't have any of the original characters and she doesn't know who any of these people are!? ?[face_plain]

Arrgh! Doesn't she realize she didn't know who the hell Luke, Han and Leia were when she first saw the OT!!!!!

Oh, and the other day I got asked, "How come the Clones were fighting along side the Jedi? Didn't Dooku create that army to kill them all?"

Can't think, brain aneurysm forming! :D

I got this question from my sister who actually doesn't hate the movies (but she doesn't like them enough to be considered a 'fan').

"Is she going to die now?"

My sister is refering to Padme in AOTC. I had to explain that there's one more episode after this and it is there that Padme will likely die (that's what I'm guessing since I don't go look up spoilers).

Another thing isn't completely SW, but my parents refer to everything I like SW.

Me: "Hey, Dad? I want to buy a manga."

    Dad: "Something Star Wars?"

    Me: "Uh. No."

    Swear to god this happened:

During the release of the SE, my friends went one night to see Empire, and I had to work, so I could not go.

One of my group of friends had not seen the movies before, apparently, and after the movie, she snuck into a bedroom and called me (this was before cell phones) and she called me, whispering and she said,

"Don't laugh at me. But I am scared to ask this of the guys, so you promise not to laugh?"

    She was serious. I promised.

    "Did Han Solo die?"

And I paused, and I did not laugh, and I calmly said,

"Wasn't there a preview for Return of the Jedi before the movie began?"

    She said yes.

I said, "Was Harrison Ford in the preview?"

    She said, "Yes he was."

    "So..." I replied

She then was relieved. It was indeed a stupid question, but a question that made me like my friend even more for asking, for it took guts to ask, and friendship for her to call me.

But yeah, it was a stupid question.

Why do you see Greedo in the hangar with Jabba the Hutt?

did you ever consider that there are many other Rodians in the Star Wars galaxy.

Recently, I saw AOTC on HBO with my friend. She had never seen any SW movie before, so after the movie, when we went in the kitchen to make more popcorn, the post movie discussion went like this (I can't recall exactly, but this is pretty much word by word):

Her: So, is Anakin that other guy's son?

    Me: Luke?

    Her: Yeah.

    Me: No. Other way around.

Her: Oh... so then why did his movies come first?

Me: They just do. These are the prequels. The other 3 were the origional series.

    Her: Why?

    Me: I don't know! Because it's better, I guess.

    *pause*

Her: So is Yoda an alien?

Me: *stare* No... he's a midget with long ears and really weird skin condition. Yes, he's an alien. What did you think he was? Human?

Her: I thought he was one of those goblin people. You know, like that guy that goes "myyyy precioussssss..."

Me: That's Lord of the Rings!

Her: Oh YEAH! That explains a lot. And Anakin is Darth Vader, right?

    Me: Right.

Her: Ohhhh... wait a minute; he's evil! And you think he's hot!?!

Me: I think ANAKIN is hot, not Vader! He's not evil yet!

Her: But he killed all those people!

Me: The Tuskens? They tortured his mom!

Her: Oh, well! He's still evil.

    Me: Not yet!

Her: And you think he's hot!

    Me: He IS hot.

Her: *makes cross fingers* Get away from me.

    And so on.

Me: I don't care I don't like Star Trek. I like Star Wars!!!

I was talking to a younger friend of mine about when Episode III was coming out and how anxious and excited I was to see it. Apparently, she'd never even seen the OT because when I said I couldn't wait to see how Anakin became Darth Vader, she looked at me with this horrified expression and said "That Anakin kid becomes Darth Vader?!"

I couldn't believe it! All I could do was apologize for ruining the movie for her! [face_laugh]

I write fanfiction and I've got a major AU WIP right now, and in trying to explain to people the plot, I've had them say, "What, Luke and Leia are brother and sister?!"

You know that bugs me too. Not the people getting confused but by the 3 identically dressed Rodians in ANH. 1. Greedo 2. Rodian seen walking through Mos Eisley on the way to docking bay 94 3. Rodian in the SE Jabba/Solo scene. All of them are wearing the exact same outfit. The green jumpsuit and tan vest. Is this a Rodian thing? Does Jabba makes the Rodians in his employment wear a uniform? Continuity error? Since the scene was added for the SE you'd think they could've fixed it.
