What's up with dreams warping familiar places?

My dreams often warp familiar places and areas to me. What I mean by this, is that they make make the places look different, yet there are things that are the same too that make me recognize where I am in the dream. So why do dreams do this? Is what I see in the dreams how my subconscious perceives familiar places and areas? If that is so, then that'd be weird and cool to be able to see what my subconscious sees.

 

I don't know why it happens, but the same thing happens to me. Usually it's only with things that are very special to me, which can sometimes make the dream very disturbing depending on how it warps things.

 

The same happens to me as well.I'll have a dream and then years later the same dream will come and its as if I've known that place forever.Why it happens? I have no idea.
