Honestly, aren't they useless? What if an enemy grabbed it and threw you down, then blasted you? WHY HAVE FINS ON A SOLDIERS HELMET?????

For asthetic appeal, perhaps; or maybe so they don't look too much like a Stormtrooper.

Because when Jango was younger, after every meal he gave himself a mohawk, so the clonetroopers did the same after the scene where they were eating: went and used hair gel to get a small mohawk, and they needed room for it in the helmet.

I think it's just so that the Clonetroopers have a unique design. Except for the helmets, Clonetrooper and Stormtrooper armor looks basically the same. And as for the Clonetrooper helmets, to me they look odd when you remove the fin from the top.

So they can scare the kids with their Jaws impressions, when they go swimming at the beach.

Then they're useless, Stormies have comlinks, too, and they don't need antennae; besides, like I said, an enemy could use this to their advantage, so it's a liability.

A smart soldier could use any article of an enemies uniform to their advantage. Grab some cloth, pull them down etc.
Plus, you'd kind have to get past a whole horde of them to get to one.
Then, each one was trained in hand-to-hand so you have that to consider. And that's assuming he doesn't have a firearm.
As for the fin? I thought it was because the Kaminoans designed them. Lama Su had a similar fin on his head.

Stormies have comlinks, too, and they don't need antennae.

    Designs/technology can change/improve over time...

And let's remember that the Clonetroopers come before the Stormtroopers in the story timeline. Perhaps the antenna was taken off the helmet because the army's research and development division found a non-antenna transmitter served them better than the antenna on the Clonetroopers' helmets. Just because we know that a transmitter will be just fine without an obvious antenna because we've seen the classic trilogy and thus the Stormtroopers, it doesn't mean that the designers of the armor working for the Kaminoans even considered the possiblity of a "non-antenna" transmitter.

He's right, at least according to the super-cool book "The Episode 2 Visual Dictionary."

I also read in the Art of Episode 2 book (I think) that the fin was an addition made at the personal request of George Lucas.

Sure, someone could use another's clothes/suit as a weapon against them, but with a fin that small, i doubt they could do much, using a limb or somthing would be more efficient for the Clonetrooper's suit. But the comlinlisn't all the way a disadvantage, if they we're in battle and being taken out, they could call for back up real quick or something.

Why did the Romans have those brushes on their heads? Why do men have nipples? Why does anyone still have an AM radio?

They'e got fins on their helmets because George Lucas thought it LOOKED cool. No other reason at all.

Well I gotta disagree with George on this one. I think it looks kinda kooky.
But I also think making Zam a changling was a waste of a perfectly sexy female human.

    Hmmm So with my thinking...
Put the fin on Changling Zam and make the Stormtroopers an army of cloned human Zams and I'd be a happy camper...

An excuse to put THX-1138 on the back of it. (the red indentification on the back of the fin)

The clone trooper helmet designs are clearly an homage to the costumes of B-grade seriels of yesteryear. Go watch some old Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers seriels and you'll see all sorts of goofy flourishes on the costumes.
