    The Beast

Tackling a war that most people never knew happened until the US entered Afghanistan following Sept 11th, The Beast occurs in 1981, where a Soviet tank crew in Afghanistan gets separated from its column, and ends up lost in an unforgiving terrain...pursued by the Mujahideen whose small village they've just destroyed.
The tank commander however is nuts, and kills one of his own men, and leaves another, Koverchenko, as bait for his pursuers, however the Afghans are obliged to take Koverchenko under their protection and hospitality when he cites the tribal code of Nanawatai.
Not only does the entire cast perform beyond Hollywood expectations, but unlike many war movies, this is neither a propane-tanks-blowing-up, nor a lovestory-set-against-the-backdrop-of-war. This is war in its human form.
Plus there's the delicious irony of the Afghans being the protagonists, since this was prior to Sept 11th and the villainization of Afghan warlords...at the time this movie was made, the Afghans were the good guys trying to fight off the Evil Soviet Empire...

It's an incredibile war movie, possibly even surpassing Saving Private Ryan, A Bridge Too Far or The Longest Day...yet very few people have ever heard of it.

    What's your secret?

    So, that's a difficult question...

Hackers, probably. It's a terrible movie, but between the cheesiness and the soundtrack I like it a lot.

Well, Raiders is my favourite movie, but the one that I really do love, that not a lot of people around my area know about is Dazed and Confused.

IT ROCKS! It also helped launch the careers of some celebs...Matthew McConaughey, Milla Jovovich, Ben Affleck, Adam Goldberg, Parker Posey, Joey Lauren Adams, and if you look carefully you can see Renée Zellweger in an uncredited cameo!

I got my friends hooked on Bruce Campbell vs. the Army of Darkness.

I don't know too many people who have seen Paris, Texas. Another more recent obscure one is Empire Records, released I think, at the wrong time.

Was tunn, wenn's brennt? ~ What To Do In Case of Fire? tells the humorous and touching story of six former creative anarchists who lived as house squatters in Berlin during its heyday in the 80s when Berlin was still an island in the middle of the former eastern Germany. At the end of the 80s they went their separate ways with the exception of Tim and Hotte, who have remained true to their ideals and continue to fight the issues they did as a group. In 2000, with Berlin as Germany's new capital, an event happens forcing the group out of existential reason to reunite and, ultimately, come to grips with the reason they separated 12 years ago.
