Now that we know that Darth Vader is "weaker" after his ROTS injuries and we know that Sidious loses his saber battle with Mace and is "disfigured" in this battle....what's your impression of these two characters now?

My original impression was that Sidious ALWAYS looked like he does and just "revealed" himself against Mace, and Vader was still able to keep his full amount of force power, even after his lava accident.

But now, based on spoilers and people who have seen the movie, that simply isnt the case. Sidious is "badly injured" by Mace Windu and Vader loses a lot of his ability.

To tell you the truth, this scenario makes more sense. It would be hard to believe that 2 men could wipe out a thousand and get by "unscathed". Now when I look at ROTJ, I look at Vader and Sidious as two guys that are kind of like 2 old Vietnam Vets who "just barely won the war" and had to pay a price for their victory.

I dont know, that's just my opinion...but what do you think of these two characters now, based on what we know from ROTS?

I still think Sidious is pretty cool, I mean look at the Yoda/Sidious fight. And Vader is Vader, he'll be iconically cool no matter what.

Yeah well the reason I asked was because I'm sitting here watching ROTJ and for some reason, I just have a different impression of Vader and Sidious now.

This is the first time I've watched it in a looooong time, and I think my views of them changed because of ROTS.

I can do a pretty good Palpatine, base on the 'Everything that has come to pass' line from RotJ, but for a decent Vader, you need a voice changer or something.

I am even MORE happy that Anakin is the one who gets to kill the Emperor.

I'm at the throne room confrontation. :)

Skip to that part and just watch Vader and Sidious...for some reason, now they just seem like "damaged goods" or something. [face_worried]

Vader seems too be weaker as he gets the crap beat out of himself by Luke, then loses an arm, so yes he does seem a little like "damaged goods", but the Emperor can still do his force lighting thing, and at that time I think Lucas never thought to have the Emperor use a lightsaber, like the Emperors power was above weapons or something.

hasn't changed much to be honest. I sort of had the basic idea of who they were just by what was covered in ROTJ. The aspects that changed most for me are the Death Star, the Senate, the stormtroopers and the Imperial Officers.

i've always thought that palpatine/sidious was one of the best villians in any movie. the PT just confirmed this IMO. in my mind vader went from being a villian that turned good at the end to a hero in a villian's shoes..i mean iron suit. sometime i slip when refering to vader(suited)and call him anakin which is a good way to confuse people. ;)

Well I always thought Sidious was a bad @#$ anyway just the way he took off Luke's handcuffs I knew this man was no joke. Now Vader is still bad but when i saw Luke open up a can on him I couldnt help but think about all of the people Vaderkin hurt like Padme, the younglings, the Jedi, Leia ,Alderaan and many many more. I just felt their anger and rage going through Luke and to see Vader get his hand chopped off and just fall to the ground was a sad moment.
Also to see the empereror laugh at him after Vader basically destroyed his family and his brotherhood for Sidious when I see ROTS I will never see Vader the same again. Nonetheless he is still a bad!@#.

Sidious is hardly damaged goods. Even after being disfigured (I still think 'unmasked' is more likely) he doesn't seem to be in great pain or weakened - look at the Yoda duel.

And Vader... Vader went from being all-powerful to just a little bit weaker than Sidious. That's still pretty powerful considering neither Yoda or Mace could take Palpatine out.

Vader is more than a mask now, and more interesting, but Sidious has always been a little 'meh' for me. Lightning, sure, major force powers, sure...but still...meh.

I can do a pretty good Palpatine, base on the 'Everything that has come to pass' line from RotJ

Surely you mean, "Everything that has transpired has done so according to *my* design ?

    DarthGarion I hope you're right.

I think him being "unmasked" is a much better idea than anything else.
It's just not sounding like that's going to be the case, based on the spoilers so far.

But Ian did say in his interview that Sidious was 120 or 130 years old so the "revealation" idea still might be possible. [face_thinking]

I totally hate vader now. He's not cool anymore. The character is weak, selfish, and too much of a baby. It's a shame he didn't die off.
I never liked sidious, he slouched in his chair. When you control the galaxy it's best to have good posture.
I could beat suited vader. he's even more of a joke than human vader. mace or yoda could've taken him either way in a one on one confrontation. He's too mentally weak a character to stand up to either of them.

    Doesnt matter.

    Either way he's unnaturally old.

EDIT: And older than in his 60's...like some people kept trying to say.

    --------------------------------

Thats pretty much how i see it.

Lucas has said Vader is still 80% as strong as Sidious, and considering how fast Palps takes out "3 of the best warriors the jedi have ever produced" in ROTS, thats crazyyyyy strong.

Sidious is about the same as i thought, super strong but not untouchable.

One thing that's really interesting to me(in an almost disturbing kind of way) is just how elaborate of a dark side seduction scheme he had for Anakin in comparison to Luke.

Would that make Luke less powerful than Vader or at his level in ROTJ though?
