I'm trying to figure out how long she remained Queen after the Battle of Naboo. I don't know of any place that it is clearly stated. Does anyone?

I know that she says she served 2 terms as Queen and thought that she was only "recently elected" as of TPM. So the questions I have include:

    >How long is a term as Queen of Naboo?
    >When was Padme elected?
    >When did Padme begin service in the senate (or indirectly, when did Queen Jamilla take office)?

I've checked various timelines and online encyclopedias with no success. Is there any EU source I might have missed for this or are the specifics unclear?

I think that the term for a Naboo Queen is 2-3 years, but I'm not sure. She was elected several years later to the senate, after leaving politics. They mention it in the movie.

She served for 8 years as queen, so she became a senator about 2 years before AOTC.

random other thought... any direct evidence that says Jamilla was the immediate successor to Amidala? or could there have been an elected monarch in between?
not likely if the term of office is 4 years... since it appears that there is only a 2 year gap between when she stepped down from queen to becoming senator.

also... when palpatine became supreme chancellor, did he continue to also serve as senator of naboo until padme was given that position, or was there a senator in between them? or did the posistion remain vacant for a while?

hmmm.. makes you wonder which is actually a more important position: being elected monarch of Naboo or being Naboo's senator in the Republic... (compare being governor of a US state vs being a senator of that state in the US Senate)

As the Bib said: Portman was queen for two terms, 8yrs, when Jamilla took over and she was Naboo's Coruscant Senator for the past 2yrs. It's right there in the novel. And right there in the movie, when she and Hayden are disembarking at Theed Spaceport.

Any particular reason why you're referring to them as Portman and Hayden instead of Padme and Anakin?

    *Shrugs*

It's a humour thing, I guess. Kicks in every now and then. So long as Hunter-Killer 47 doesn't find out, I won't steal his thunder. :p

According to the 'New Essential Guide to Characters' entry for Padme:

She had been Queen about 5 months before the Trade Federation blockaded Naboo
She served as queen for eight years
Jamilla was her successor and she asked Padme to serve as a senator

Well, the end of Cloak of Deception had Palpatine speaking with the recently elected queen, Amidala. The book is set half a year before TPM.
