I think most people agree that there has been a very large dip in the quality of The Simpsons. Personally, I don't think I've ever really laughed at an episode for years. For me, the turning point was the episode where Homer became a boxer - it was the first Simpsons episode ever which did not have a single LOL joke. From then on, the Simpsons just went slowly downhill. Right now, it's just a complete piece of crap. That Nsync episode a few years ago was, quite simply, the worst episode of any television show ever.

    Discuss.

you sure are a negative nelly today.

Some of the latest ones I have watched though have been pearlers. (the Scotland yard episode) There was a lapse- especially if you watch some season 5 peak episodes now. (the one where marge joins the power plant is a ripper)

But It will all end next year with a movie so hopefully it will go out with a bang instead of a fizz

    I voted "still good".

With the sheer quantity of Simpsons made, and Channel 10's stupidity in repeating only seasons 3-6 (and a minute or 2 shorter than when it first aired!!), makes any new stuff for me good.

I'm glad theres an end in sight- It's like Bradman ending his career with a 99 batting average.

But then where'd we get the inspiration to suggest people are "Reeking of panda love?"

Give me Family Guy any day.

    they both have their charms.

However is it agreed that Family Guy would never exist if the Simpsons had not been aired???

It stopped being coherent a few years back and just degenerated into pop culture jokes that go on to the point of being painful. It had a good ten years of comedy gold, but after that long you just sort of run out of material.

Celebrity Guest Stars = not funny...

There's still quite a bit of Simpsons comedy gold out there, and so many episodes /I haven't seen over the years that I can no longer tell whether I'm watching a new one, or one I just happened to miss out on a year ago... still, it means I am often pleasantly surprised.

For the record, Homer + Panda is hilarious. However, my opinion of comedy has been skewed by the internet, and I'll laugh at a lot of things that other people might only find mildly amusing, like a mistranslated spaceship captain or a fat guy lip-synching on his webcam or a flash video about potatoes.

    Celebrities.

That episode with Homer going to work for those two random Hollywood celebrities after crashing through their roof after going watersailing/skiing/whatever was just terrible.

I can't tell what a new episode is from an old one. They are on TV so much I just catch it when I catch it.

I will say it seems that sometimes the characters seem well, out of character. I watched an ep the other week where Lisa was much a brat as Bart. Seemed all wrong.

They threw continuity out the window in about season 5. While that allowed for some funny situations, it also meant that the characterisations eventually slipped - and that ain't funny.

Lisa acts like she's 15 half the time, the other half like she's 40.

It was good, definitely a TV milestone and it will always be loved by me, but it's time to finish it.

yessiree. it would be a shame to see it sink to the levels that the Flinstones did with their "variety hour when they lived nextdoor to the Ghoul family!

    bring on the Finale Movie!

I've never really been a fan of the Simpsons, so I voted that it's always been crap. Although I must admit there have been a few gems in there, that I really have enjoyed, but that really isn't a lot in the whole, what seems like, 100 years of it being on TV.

Yes shows like Family Guy and American Dad probably wouldn't have existed without it, but they still could have ended the Simpsons run years ago and started putting some better stuff on. Maybe we wouldn't have as much reality TV if the Simpsons wasn't on any more...

Claiming the Simpsons influenced American Dad is a bit dishonest, since it's a degree of separation thing; Simpsons paved the way for Family Guy; which, when resurrected, paved the way for American Dad.

The quality went way down hill from the season where Homer makes "Mr. Smith goes to Washington" with Mel Gibson. Thats what killed it for me. But, the quality has been improving in the newer ones. The episode with Bart turning fat was GOLD!. I still have faith in The Simpsons.

I don't watch much of the newest episodes, but when I do I still find moments of enjoyment. I think the fact that it's more like a sketch show then the way it originally set out to be way back when might be a possible shark moment, but I don't think it's really jumped yet.

Woah this is about Simpsons losing the magic, not a 'fave character' thread!

...for the record, Homer is the best.

It has left us with many memorable characters and quotes.

    "neehay!... Glaben":-B

"Don't worry Lisa, this is LAMB!, not A Lamb!"

"They're make believe, just like elves, gremlins and eskimos!"

"Now we go live to a New England man who has had the Hiccups for 3 years.." "*Hic* Kill Me! *hic" Kill Me!"

etc... in fact perhaps we should start a new thread.... (someone other than me, I've posted too many!!!!)

Lisa is actually my age ;)

If I hadn't seen an episode a few weeks ago (the baby-germs one) I'd be disagreeing but I beginning to think the series is getting a little stale.

My fave episodes are before season 13, like the hockey episode and the stonecutters.

The little miss springfield one is still a fave for me.
