I started when I was in 4th grade and my mom for no reason bought me a Luke action figure(X-wing fighter outfit) and then I watched the movies and got like 200 dollars worth of toys until my little brother lost them and my dog ate the rest of them...

I was 4 and it was the good old faithful year of 88 I believe. My parents showed me A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. I was hooked 5 minutes into ANH. They are the first films I remember seeing, and ever since then the lightsaber duel in ESB has been carved into my mind forever. :)

I just started to love Star Wars when I had seen the first comercial in 1977! It was just so cool! I could remember it like yesterday.

They said the movie had a farm boy a princess a villain! It had these cool looking ships. Action, It looked like the best movie that I could've seen. When I was 7, Star Wars was the birthday gift that I had gooten, seen the movie!

Okay...I've probably got one of the strangest reasons....

You need to hear the background to understand...

For years my cousin was trying to get me to watch Star Wars, he is an incredibly huge fan....but I always said 'no, I don't like Star Wars' when really I had never see any of the entire films before....so for many years that went on....probably from the early nineties until 99..

My freshman year english teacher was a big fan so for a paper we had to write about good vs. evil in Star Wars...so there was pretty much no way that I would be able to get out of watching it unless I wanted to sacrifice a test grade, so I watched it and fell in love (used loosely of course) and ever since I have been a huge fan....that is probably the only time I will thank anything for schoolwork....

LOL! That's funny LS 12! How did you feel when you saw the commericals for PM? It tell you, I nearly fainted! I kept saying--After all these years?!?--over and over. Okay, so the movie didn't live up to the hype, but I'll tell you, have felt very few moments of TOTAL joy like that. :)

    EDIT: JediSaralyn-it doesn't matter when,
where or how. Welcome to the fold my
    friend. :)

I was somewhat in to them in my pre teen days, but I wasnt a big fan. (I collected some of the toys.) The SW video games for the Super Nintendo got me interested in the movies again when I was 13. THose games kicked butt!! They were so much like the movie. (I think they were voted best video games to be adapted from a movie) So that made me a bigger fan. THen around the age of 16 I sort of had a falling out with SW again. I still liked them, its just that I had grown tired of them. My interest was rekindled after TPM came out. I had had low expectations for the PT, but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw TPM. I am now a bigger SW than ever. The PT is making me a bigger and bigger fan.

In 1977, when I saw it for the first time on the 70mm screen at Mission Valley in San Diego. I was 8. I think I was hooked at the moment I first saw Tatooine don't know and you can see the color of the planet, the atmosphere and then space. I just thought that was SO cool. And of course the Tantive IV followed by the SD lumbering across the screen sealed the deal!

LOL! DarthNoll I totally agree with you. I think something about being a little kid when these movies came out, really has affected me and why I am a SW fan to this day. I was 7 when ANH came out and I remember nearly jumping out of my seat when STAR WARS flashed across the screan. The MUSIC ALONE made my heart race. The music and my dad reading the opening story to me are things I will never forget. [face_love]

I had an almost similuar feeling just a few weeks ago. But my role was different. My father finially gave in and let me show the OT to my little brothers (4 and 6). We were down stairs watching it on the big screen with surround sound and I had it up a little loud. They both jumped at the same moment that I did when I was little! How could they not? ;) They giggled a little and looked at me to see if I did the same thing. I just smiled. Then when the story started to roll, Gene (the 6 year old) said,"are you going to read it to us Sissy?" (btw, he can read for himself). I almost couldn't because I was so close to crying. I love them so much, and to finially give them something that has brought me so much happiness, was overwhelming. Another reason why I love SW: because my little brothers love it. :)

Sorry for the sappy stuff. [face_blush]

My fire for Star Wars was basicly kindled in my library reading book after book after book relating to Star Wars. That was around July-October 1999. Then I watched TPM* and that did it for me. :) :) :)

*I only saw TPM once in theaters. It was at some special charity event late in october.

I actually wasn't that interested in it until I saw TPM. That's how I got interested. I don't even think I saw the OT in full until 1997 or around there somewhere. TPM was the first one I saw in theaters, I never saw the rereleases in the theater.

When, sometime back in 1996, I got the videos of Episodes 4-6 as a gift. I had never cared about Star Wars before, but I watched the films anyway. Still, I wasn't really addicted yet. I collected five or six EU books, and watched the movies once or twice more, but after a few months it stopped being one of my main interests. I lost the books and the videos, and to this day I never found out where they are. Then, about a year and a half later, in late 1998, the Phantom Menace first came out. Granted, it wasn't anywhere near as good as the original three movies, but it was enough to remind me of how much I liked Star Wars again. While I no longer had any of the Star Wars videos, I managed to watch some of the movies every now and then, usually on TV. I occasionally checked up on Star Wars news and information, until finally, 4 years later, Episode 2 was scheduled to come out. After seeing the movie, which, unlike Episode 1, was just as good as most of the original Star Wars movie, my passion for the series was rekindled. And... well, now I think it's getting a bit out of hand, with me coming to these forums practically every day...

It was too far back in the past for me to remember... I guess probably around 1988 'cuz that's when I met my best friend. Yep, we thought we lived in Star Wars (but that's just how boring my town was.) Then I found out there were novels. I saw "Shield of Lies" at Wal-Mart, read it, got confused by it, and then got "The Bacta War" for my thirteenth birthday.
I remember the first time I saw the TPM trailer! My best friend and I freaked out in the movie theater and nearly got kicked out! I don't think we paid attention to the movie after that...

Well im 15 years old an I've been hooked on Star Warsfor pretty much 13 years. Ever since i was 2, i use to watch Star wars at my best friends house. I always use to borrow his Triligoy box set and run down the tapes with my repeated viewings. Oh it was great. I never stopped watching it. then i got older and got my first SW toy.... A Boba Fett figure. It was awsome. Then i got the SE trilogy for a present!!!! that boosted my spirit :)

Sad to say that when TPM was released [saw it on opeing night in Australia when i was 12] i lost a bit of faith in the PT, but i still loved the effects and i got to see a young Anikan..... Now, after watching and loving AOTC, i ca proudly say that i have been hooked on star wars my ENTIRE life.

Great story, talltrees! That made me totally think of my Dad because we were both really into Star Wars - still are! I had to call him and he reminded me of the Jawa costume we made for Halloween... I think I was in 4th grade? 5th grade? It was so awesome! I had real, light-up eyes and everything! You should have seen his reaction when I first showed him my Stormtrooper armor ~ I think he wants to build his own now! :D

The first time I ever saw Star Wars was when I was 5; it was on tv late one night and my parents were watching it interestedly. When I asked what it was, they muttered "some stupid 'Sun Battles'" and went back to watching it but banned me to bed. I never forgot that opening scene of someone riding a hairy kangaroo across snow, but it got shoved to the back of my mind...Until I was about 10. My mom took me to a Sam's warehouse and bought me my first Disney movie, "The Jungle Book". My brother and I were ecstatic, but then we passed by the Electronics section. On the big screen tvs covering the walls was playing some movie where a big black robot guy was hitting a small guy with a shiny stick(hey, I thought, it's the kangaroo rider!)...and I was hooked. My mom forgot us in the tv section and came back about 20 minutes later...and we were still watching :D

Well, for me it was when the Special Editions came out in theaters. I had never seen any of the Star Wars movies before, but my dad had them all on VHS somewhere at the house. Anyway, I was 13 when they were re-released in 1997, and my parents took me to see ANH. I'm telling you what, within 10 minutes, I was hooked. That movie was all I talked about for like, a week. Lol, then I went and saw EBB in theaters, but sadly, I didn't get to go see ROTJ in theaters. I couldn't wait and ended up digging the VHS out and watching it at home. Lol. But now, these are my favorite movies and I couldn't imagine my life if I had never seen them to this day. That's kind of a scary thought. [face_shocked]
