When Obi-Wan went "to get a drink", did he really need a drink?

When Obi-Wan and Anakin pursued Zam Wessel into the nightclub on Coruscant, Obi-Wan went to get a drink. My first assumption was that Obi-Wan was simply trying to blend in and not look conspicuous (thereby causing a ruckus, making the situation chaotic, and thus making it more difficult for Anakin and him to find their shape-shifting bounty hunter prey). On second thought, however, I think Obi-Wan genuinely needed a drink. After all, with his costume and equipment, observant club members would not have failed to notice he was a Jedi anyway, and Anakin was actively stalking Zam without drawing attention to himself. Obi-Wan ("I hate flying") had just been on a wild ride through Coruscant's traffic lanes, and had to further put up with Anakin 's stunts while pursuing Zam. His nerves were probably on edge and he probably genuinely needed a strong shot of . . . something to calm him down.

I think he wanted a drink. Some of those Coruscant cocktails look mighty refreshing.

    I agree...the mullet...the beard....that just screams barfly.

In seriousness...I think Obi predicted that Zam would show herself if the Jedi appeared to have their guard down.

BuriedAlien, no, Obi-Wan didn't really need a drink, i mean, do any of us when we have a beer or something? No. He went up to get a drink to just wait for Zam fall for it and make her move, which he was waiting for. If you noticed, when Anakin & Obi-Wan go into the club, Anakin said "what are you doing" and Obi-Wan trying not to cause attention says "to get a drink", but notice how he said it.

yeah, maybe he wanted to act like he was there for a drink and not for tracking someone, he wanted to blend in so people wouldn't be suspicious. not doubt people could tell that he was jedi, but hey, jedi go to places like that, too sometimes, dont they? and... maybe he indeed needed a drink, too, after that crazy ride. ;)

I mean, he did cause attention in the way of Anakin walking around with no disguise whatsoever, but he was just waiting for Zam to make her move and Obi-Wan would capture her and interrogate her if possible.

This is just a joke, but maybe Obi Wan needed to find a reason to sit and check out the scenery. ;) Its the only opportunity for him to wind down, if for a moment because he's knee deep in his job.

Ofcourse the real reason was to use himself as bait. Luckily some of ladies didn't approach him, it would have blown his cover! :D

Seriously though,he's teaching Anakin in the process, how outsmart opposition than using brute force.

I guess he wanted Zam to think that his guard was down. So when she attacked him he could capture her.

I always thought it was Lucas' way of showing us more of the older, more mature Obi-Wan. I mean, think about it - the younger Obi-Wan (or Anakin) would be hyped, full of adrenaline and energy, after jumping out a window, getting electrocuted, shot at, falling to what could be his death, and, of course, having Anakin around. ;)

Then he goes into the club, casual as can be, sits and has a drink, totally calm and in control after all of that. I just think that's cool.

Storywise, I agree that he probably did it to draw Zam out.

Maybe he was using this as a training device. To let this be a part of Anakin's training.

Yeah,I could see that. "Now, *hic* the difference between a Correlian ale and a *hic* a *hic* a *hic*....wow you're pretty."

"What's the purpose of this master?"

"You *hic* shut your mouth and *hic* get *hic* get *hic* back to work!" *turns to pitcher on the bar* "Now, as I was *hic* sayin, the diference is..."

Training Anakin took a lot out of Obi-Wan, not to mention jumping out of a hundred storey building, flying over the city while hanging on to a droid, watching Anakin jump out of the speeder....what better to calm his nerves than a nice drink?....And then, to think of him in the future as he starts to take on the responsibility of Luke, he drinks again, possibly dealing with the feeling that he was taking on an Anakin Junior.

Yes, Lightbird, you´re definitely on to something there! Skywalkers have a bad influence on Obi-Wan.

If flying around with Anakin makes him want a drink, then I'm sure he'll get one after fighting in the Clone Wars and watching the Jedi get purged. Why do you think he knows the Mos Eisley Cantina so well? :p

    :D

OB1 was in a bar, so he's having a drink.
I think this shows just how casual the Jedi were in situations where others would be in fear for their lives.

    Drawing out Zam, that too.

I think it shows a more human, kicked back style that we haven't seen in a Jedi before. Even though he's in danger, Obi is able to relax and have a drink. It shows his maturity and brains because he had the clarevoyance to know that the one they seek would come to him, while Anakin was chasing his tail.

If a Jedi can drink, can they smoke spice too?

We know they don't like death sticks.....
